++Germany's 🇩🇪 support for Ukraine 🇺🇦 is unwavering++ In light of the unspeakable events during the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to the White House 🇺🇸 last week, Germany’s Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock spoke about Germany’s solidarity with Ukraine at the Foreign Office on March 1st, 2025. 🗒️ In her statement, she declared: “As Europeans, we must lead the way more strongly than ever before and stand up resolutely for our interests and international law.“ 🇪🇺 👉🏾 It is unmistakably clear: Ukraine is part of a free, democratic Europe - and the aggressor is in the Kremlin. It was Vladimir Putin who launched a brutal war of aggression against a democratic state for no good reason and in clear violation of international law. 🔴 Minister Baerbock said in this regard: “We can never accept a perpetrator-victim reversal. Because a perpetrator-victim reversal is the opposite of peace - it would be the end of international law and thus also the end of the security of the vast majority of states.“ The consequence? We must act. Now. So that Ukraine 🇺🇦 can achieve a just peace even if US support is cancelled❗ So what's next? Minister Baerbock just presented a powerful six-points-plan to enhance Ukraine’s and Europe’s security ✅. Its key elements are: 🔹 More German support for Ukraine: Baerbock urges the Bundestag (German Parliament) to approve an additional € 3 billion in aid 💰🤝. 🔹 A strong European financial package for humanitarian, economic and especially defense support 💶. 🔹 Massive investments in European defense: Europe’s defense capabilities must match the scale of the challenges we are facing 🛡️⚔️. 🔹 Close coordination with key allies: Germany 🇩🇪 must work hand in hand with France, the UK and Poland 🇫🇷🇬🇧🇵🇱. This regards enhancing Ukrainian air defence as well as the delivery of long-range arms systems for defense purposes ✔️. 🔹 Investments in European security are investments in transatlantic relations. A lasting peace for Ukraine is far more likely to be achieved with Washington rather than without it, let alone in opposition to it 🇺🇸. 👉🏾 Want more info? 🔋The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) allows African stakeholders to shape and benefit from the global energy transition, addressing their development needs and climate action goals. This year, it is taking place on 18 and 19 March. But what is it? 🤔 The BETD is a leading international conference focusing on the global shift towards sustainable energy. It brings together policymakers, business leaders, and experts to discuss strategies for transforming the energy sector, with an emphasis on renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, and climate change solutions ♻️. Held annually in Berlin 🇩🇪, the event serves as a platform for sharing ideas and innovations that drive global energy transition goals. For Africa 🌍, the BETD is highly relevant as the continent possesses vast renewable energy potential, particularly in solar ☀️ and wind 💨. The conference provides an opportunity for African nations to engage with global stakeholders, explore investment opportunities, and discuss practical solutions to expand energy access, especially in rural and underserved areas. The event also highlights the importance of innovation and financing in overcoming the region's energy challenges. Given the growing energy demand and the impacts of climate change in Africa, BETD presents a crucial opportunity for African leaders to collaborate on sustainable energy policies and solutions that support both economic growth and environmental sustainability 🌱. By engaging with global experts and industry leaders, African countries can strengthen their capacity to transition to cleaner energy, improve infrastructure, and position themselves as key players in the global renewable energy landscape. Women are key drivers of innovation and inclusion in law enforcement, bringing essential skills and perspectives to the fight against hashtag#transnationalorganizedcrime. Their leadership strengthens institutions and ensures more effective approaches to today’s complex security challenges. 🌍 The womENACTion initiative, launched by INTERPOL in 2022, is a groundbreaking program dedicated to empowering African female law enforcement officers working in criminal intelligence analysis and combating transnational organized crime. By providing a virtual networking platform, mentorship opportunities, and resources, womENACTion fosters collaboration, builds capacity, and champions gender mainstreaming in law enforcement. To date, the initiative has engaged over 200 officers from 35 African countries, offering webinars and workshops on critical issues such as gender perspectives in arms trafficking and intelligence analysis. This platform allows women to exchange experiences, access tools, and address challenges, ultimately contributing to more effective crime prevention strategies. The recent analytical bootcamp in Kenya exemplified this mission. Over five intensive days, participants tackled real-world challenges through role-playing, collaborative research, and problem-solving exercises. This experience not only enhanced their professional skills but also strengthened the network of female leaders committed to creating safer communities across Africa 💼. We are proud to contribute to this transformative initiative, which celebrates and supports the vital role of women in law enforcement. #Leadership #womENACTion #WomenInLawEnforcement #DiversityInSecurity #OrganizedCrimePrevention

🌙 Ramadan Begins Tonight! 🌙 This evening marks the start of Ramadan, a sacred month for Muslims around the world. From February 28 2025 on, Muslims all over the world will embark on a journey of fasting, prayer, community and spiritual growth🌟. Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time for reflection, devotion, and unity. 🇩🇪 Annalena Baerbock, the Foreign Minister of Germany, extends heartfelt well wishes to all who will be observing this blessed month 🌍. May it bring peace and harmony to all. While millions will celebrate this peaceful time, we cannot forget those in conflict and war zones like Sudan and Gaza, where the sounds of war drown out the chance for a peaceful Ramadan 💔. We stand with them, recognising their pain and praying for their safety. We see you. We stand with you ✊. The United Nations emphasises the importance of freedom of religion—a fundamental human right that should be respected for all. 🙏 ✨ "Peace can achieve wonders that wars never will." – United Nations Secretary-General Let’s come together in spirit of peace, reflection and solidarity. ✨ WATCH [📹] Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany United Nations #Ramadan2025 #Peace #Unity #StandWithPeace

#FlashbackFriday: Thoroughly addressing Germany’s colonial past is an important priority for the German Government and the Federal Foreign Office 🇩🇪. To this end, the Federal Foreign Office supported the work of an international research team. Together, they explored the role of the Foreign Office in colonialism. Its colonial directorate-general at the time was directly responsible for German colonial rule in Africa, Asia and Oceania between 1890 and 1907 🌐. In 1907, this became the Imperial Colonial Office. 📚 The researchers’ investigation has been published in the anthology “Das Auswärtige Amt und die Kolonien. Geschichte, Erinnerung, Erbe” (The Foreign Office and the Colonies. History, Remembrance, Legacy). The authors state quite clearly that the Federal Foreign Office, as an institution, shares responsibility for the violence and crimes committed in the German colonies. Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock gave a speech at the launch of the book in June 2024. She said, "We cannot change our past. But we can reflect on our history in the light of the knowledge we possess today—and, together with our partners, we can learn lessons for the present and for our future.“ 🤝 Thus, German diplomacy is based on trust and respect today. Examining our own actions, past and present, lays the foundations for strong partnerships for the future, intending to create a safer, more prosperous, and more peaceful world for all ✨. 🌍 Preserving Cultural Heritage Through Art & Fashion 🎨👗 For generations, Ndebele women in Matobo, 🇿🇼 Zimbabwe—a UNESCO cultural landscape—have decorated their rural homesteads with stunning, hand-painted motifs using natural pigments. These intricate designs, rich in tradition and creativity, are washed away each year with the rains. To support and preserve this unique art form, the German Embassy in Zimbabwe has been collaborating with many of the hut painting Matobo women, local artists, creatives, the The National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo and the Fashion Council of Zimbabwe to bring hut painting into new artistic expressions. The “Matobo goes Fashion… and beyond” project transforms traditional designs into fashion, handicrafts, and furniture, providing visibility and income opportunities for the women artists. 🇩🇪 Germany actively funds cultural preservation projects worldwide as part of its cultural relations and education policy. These initiatives help safeguard and strengthen cultural identity while fostering dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and mutual understanding. By enabling knowledge transfer and protecting heritage, Germany contributes to the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). #CulturalHeritage #WomenEmpowerment #MatoboCollection #UNSDGs Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany

#Inspiration: Nisreen Elsaim’s journey is a powerful example of what it means to lead with passion🌅, resilience, and purpose. Starting her climate activism in 2012, she’s been a dedicated force in creating a more sustainable world. From her work as the Chair and Co-founder of the Sudan Youth Organisation on Climate Change (SYOCC) to her role as General Coordinator for the Youth and Environment-Society (YES) platform, Nisreen has empowered youth across the globe to take climate action🌞. Her work has reached the highest levels, advising UN Secretary-General António Guterres on climate change strategies and earning recognition from French President Emmanuel Macron for her unwavering commitment. 👉But her journey hasn't been without its struggles. When war broke out in Sudan, Nisreen was forced to flee with her son, losing everything. Yet, in the face of crisis, she remained steadfast, continuing to raise awareness about climate change. "Climate change doesn’t wait for stability. It impacts the most vulnerable," she says. ✅ Today, as a Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin 🇩🇪, Nisreen continues to shape global conversations about climate, peace, and security. Her work reminds us that the fight for climate justice is not just about protecting the environment, but about ensuring a future of peace and opportunity for everyone.
