  • Last week Friday, team members from across our African operations gathered for Redpath’s annual Safety, Health, Environment, Quality and Training (SHEQT) Conference. The event, which took place at the picturesque Pecan Manor Boutique Conference and Function Venue near the Magalies Mountains, served as a great opportunity for the team to come together, learn and collaborate. The conference showcased the latest SHEQT initiatives planned for 2025, which was facilitated by Redpath Mining Africa’s SHEQT Executive, Johan Mostert. Engaging presentations by the Operational teams provided valuable insights into Redpath’s operations and the impactful skills transfer initiatives currently underway at the Venetia operation. One of Redpath’s partners, Normet, shared valuable information into emerging equipment trends towards enabling safer operations. After the official conference, the group came together for a team-building activity featuring a drumming session and a performance by special guest Ruhan Du Toit, an award-winning South African singer-songwriter. We would like to thank all participants and the Redpath Executive team for making this an incredible experience.

Redpath turns 62! From humble beginnings to the global organization it is today, Redpath was founded sixty-two years ago, tomorrow, by the 26-year old Canadian mining engineer, Jim Redpath. Initially the business was run from the basement of Jim Redpath’s apartment. It was during those early years that Jim Redpath formulated the company’s Philosophy and Guidelines for Success. These founding principles derived from his belief that the focus of every employee must be on doing a good job for the client. Over six decades later and now with 10,000 employees, these principles are still present on every Redpath work site and in every corporate communication. All projects are viewed through the lens of how a decision or action will align with these corporate values.

The November Safety Theme for Redpath's Americas division is the “5 Point Safety System”. The 5-Point Safety System is a key element of the Redpath Safety Program. It was developed for supervisors and workers to ensure a thorough workplace inspection before starting work. The System includes five steps to ensure a safe workplace and was conceptualized by Neil George in the 1940s. By understanding and implementing these five key steps, we can create a safer environment for ourselves and our colleagues, minimize risks, and enhance overall productivity. With this month’s activities in mind, we consider how we can leverage each point of our safety system to strengthen our commitment to safety and create a safer environment for everyone. Safety is not just a priority; it's a core value that shapes the culture and practices at Redpath. #redpathmining #thisismining #SafetyFirstLastAndAlways #5pointsafety #5point #SafetyProgram

  • This Women’s Month, Redpath Mining South Africa is honoured to continue our #ShareYourSpark campaign, where we celebrate the remarkable women within our organisation by sharing their stories, passions and inspirations. Today, we share a touching response from Desire Timm (Payroll Manager), who reflects on the profound impact her late mother had on her life. “I learnt the greatest values from the woman in my family – my amazing sisters, my daughter, aunts, cousins, niece, and grandparents. But there is no comparison to the most significant inspiration of all, being my late mom. She taught me to laugh and find humour even in the darkest of times. She taught me to love unconditionally and care selflessly for Everyone and to be responsible for Anyone, animals, children, elderly, family, friends, and strangers alike. She taught me to question things and get excited about the possibilities that could exist within the mysteries of life. She taught me to be humble and to believe in miracles. She was my miracle and influence my thoughts and actions every day. I aspire to pass some part of her onto others so that they can experience miracles of their own and see the world through her eyes.”

  • This Women’s Month, Redpath Mining South Africa is thrilled to continue our #ShareYourSpark campaign, a tribute to the incredible women within our organisation. By sharing their stories, passions, and inspirations, we aim to spotlight the diverse ways in which these women are making a meaningful impact in their professions, communities, and beyond. Today, we are excited to share an inspiring response from Dikeledi Baloyi (Group Inventory Controller), who reflects on the transformative power of education and the profound influence of love. “Education: Education has the power to change lives and transform communities. It’s not just about acquiring knowledge; it’s about opening doors to opportunities, breaking cycles of poverty, and fostering a brighter, more inclusive future. Love: My love for my grandfather has always been a source of inspiration and strength, creating a positive ripple effect in my life and those around me. Growing up, he was my hero, teaching me kindness, hard work, and perseverance. His influence extended beyond our family; he was a community pillar, always ready to help. Inspired by his legacy, I became involved in community service, striving to make a difference just as he did. Whether volunteering, mentoring, or organizing events, I aim to spread the values he instilled in me. The positive changes I've witnessed in my community and within myself are a testament to his lasting impact. Through my efforts, I hope to honour his memory and ensure his spirit of generosity and compassion lives on.”

  • This Women’s Month, Redpath Mining South Africa proudly continues our #ShareYourSpark campaign, where we celebrate the incredible women within our organisation by sharing their stories, passions, and inspirations. These narratives highlight the unique ways in which Redpath’s women are making a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Today, we are excited to share the inspiring story of Mariaan Scheepers (Project Coordinator), who, alongside her friend, Thea Smit, is deeply passionate about animal protection. Mariaan recently spent time at the Woodrock CatCafe, a haven for rescued cats where visitors, especially children, can interact with these feline friends in a joyful and supportive environment. While at the CatCafe, Mariaan was moved by the presence of 12 rescue cats from Virginia, her hometown, who now reside at the café. The experience not only reinforced her love for animals but also sparked a dream shared with Thea to start a similar initiative in the George-Mossel Bay area. Although this dream is still in its early stages, with Thea’s husband actively searching for a suitable location, Mariaan’s passion for animal welfare continues to drive her vision. Inspired by the positive impact that places like the Woodrock CatCafe have on communities, Mariaan is committed to creating a space where both people and animals can thrive. Through her dedication to this cause, she hopes to leave a lasting legacy of compassion and care for animals in her community.

  • This Women’s Month, Redpath Mining South Africa is proud to launch its #ShareYourSpark campaign. This initiative is all about celebrating the incredible women within our organisation by sharing their stories, passions and inspirations. Through their voices, we aim to highlight the diverse ways in which Redpath’s women are making a difference in their professions, communities and beyond. Today, we’re sharing a heartfelt response from NTHABISENG SETIKO TT (SA) (Payroll Administrator), who reflects on the wisdom passed down from her grandmothers and mothers and how it has shaped her journey. “In the narrative of our lives, the threads woven by our grandmothers and mothers hold a significant and cherished place. These threads, enriched with love, wisdom, and stories, linger in our hearts, guiding us through our journey. The invaluable wisdom of our elders not only provides comfort but also inspires us to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and grace. As a young lady, I was fortunate to have a woman see potential in me and empower me to join the tax industry. Today, I proudly stand as a woman in the tax profession. This journey has been deeply influenced by the empowering spirit of the women who came before me, whose strength and determination continue to inspire my path.”
