𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨 • 𝘛𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘴 & 𝘊𝘰 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 In October, Strauss & Co’s International Sale featured Marc Chagall’s 'La Fenêtre à Paris' (R8m/$455,203) and a Picasso drawing (R7.3m/$416,185), both performing well against international sales. Notably, 50% of buyers were South African. In March, we launched our first selling exhibition in London at Cromwell Place, titled 'Alexis Preller: Surreal Discovery'. The show featured 11 works for sale and 11 on loan, attracting strong media attention and significant sales. In October, during Frieze Week, we presented 'Looking Towards Freedom: Womxn Artists from Africa' in London, showcasing modern and contemporary African women artists. This exhibition, alongside our earlier one, highlighted the importance of strategic market presence. Additionally, Strauss & Co produced guides for collectors in London and Venice, supporting the 2024 African Art in Venice Forum and Frieze Week, which were well received and sponsored by Stonehage Fleming. #StraussAndCo #2024withStraussAndCo

𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨 • 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 In 2024, Strauss & Co held 12 auctions focused on decorative arts and jewellery. The year kicked off with Woven Legacies: Celebrating African Artistry, our first auction dedicated to fibre art, showcasing historical textiles and modern fabric pieces. A Ndebele beaded panel by Martha Mahlangu topped the sale at R70,350 ($3,904). We also hosted five jewellery and precious stone auctions, with the Diamond Edition in May achieving an 80% sell-through rate. A Cartier diamond necklace in October fetched R1.5m ($85,680). Jewellery and gemstones are a key growth area, with exciting plans for 2025. The Mid-Century Modern Furniture & Design auction in September highlighted works by designers like Gunni Omann and Giuseppe Scapinelli, reflecting a shift towards 20th and 21st-century pieces. Classic furniture and silver continue to perform well, with a Cape stinkwood armoire selling for R140,700 and a set of Mexican silver underplates by Juventino Lopez Reyes earning R87,938 ($4,885) in October. #StraussAndCo #2024withStraussAndCo

𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨 • 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘈𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘛𝘰𝘱 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘴 Strauss & Co’s wine department had another outstanding year, continuing to set record prices for South African wines. In 2024, we held 11 auctions, including the debut of three major private cellars and rare wines. Highlights include a record R58,625 for a 1986 Klein Constantia Vin de Constance and a 100-Point Score Collection of South African wines that sold for R82,075. The Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction was a success, raising R16.6 million—up 11%—with Kanonkop’s CWG Paul Sauer 2021 leading the way at R4,313 per bottle. In 2024, we also expanded into fine spirits, offering bespoke single-cask brandies from top producers. The KWV Strauss & Co Pinotage Potstill Brandy fetched R3,518 per 750ml, while the Kaapzicht 25 Year Old sold for R2,931. We’re proud to enhance South Africa’s brandy tradition with these exceptional offerings. #StraussAndCo #2024withStraussAndCo

𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨 • 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 Strauss & Co’s modern and contemporary art remains our top revenue source, with the ten highest-earning artists in 2024 generating nearly half of our income—R195 082 543 from 232 lots. J H Pierneef, Alexis Preller, and Irma Stern led the way, with Preller’s market boosted by a major retrospective at Norval Foundation. Keith Alexander’s continued popularity signals growing interest in realist artists like Neil Rodger and John Meyer. Sekoto’s top ten placement, driven by sales of 10 exile-period works, and Tretchikoff’s record-setting 'Balinese Girl' (R5.6m) reflect ongoing demand. Stern’s 'The Smoker' (1945) topped sales at R17.2m, and works by Preller and Stern dominated the year’s highest individual sales. Van Wouw’s 1902 sculptural study of an art student at work sold for R2.7m, highlighting the enduring appeal of South Africa’s old masters. In contrast, the market for Hugo Naudé and Pieter Wenning remains weaker, though still offers value. Strauss & Co’s second International Sale in 2024 raised R24.9m / $1.4m, with works by Chagall and Picasso leading. The sale attracted bidders from 20 countries and created 160 new clients. Private sales, managed by senior art specialist Kirsty Colledge, contributed R54.5m in 2024. #StraussAndCo #2024withStraussAndCo

𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨 • 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘰 Strauss & Co’s expanding range of South African and international art, wine, spirits, decorative arts, and jewellery has inspired our specialists to creatively package sales. This dynamic approach, featuring artists, designers, and collectors’ items, has resonated strongly with buyers, reflected in a 21.6% growth in new registrants for our auctions in 2024. In September, we held the successful single-artist auction A World in Clay: Hylton Nel’s Ceramic Studio, which featured 49 sold lots from the artist, following his collaboration with Dior fashion designer Kim Jones. Nel also starred in Sculpted Narratives: South African Ceramics, part of our inaugural live auction series in Pretoria, alongside The Pretoria Sale: Modern and Contemporary Art. It was an honour to host these auctions at the former home of landscape painter J H Pierneef. Our first major auction of 2024, Curatorial Voices: African Landscapes, Past and Present, held in February, showcased works by artists from across Africa and coincided with the second Art Business Conference at Strauss & Co. Other highlights included Ways of Seeing: South African and International Photography, our debut photography auction in September, and The Fine Gem Edition in October, emphasizing our commitment to rare gems. In November, Cape Fine Brandy launched a new auction category featuring rare Cape brandies from six producers. #StraussAndCo #2024WithStraussAndCo
