South Africa's water woes have been a concern for some time. At SWPN, we emphasise sustainability and addressing South Africa's water security risks. Our projects are selected based on their potential to help close the projected 17% water supply-demand gap by 2030. This is equally important as their ability to be replicated or upscaled, driving systemic water management improvements that can become self-sustaining beyond initial support. One example is the Alex Project as featured in the Trialogue Business in Society Handbook 2024, which aims to create a fund to drive investments in projects that can generate water savings to pay for scaling up the initiatives. The water challenges facing South Africa are immense, but collaborative efforts demonstrate how cross-sector partnerships can drive innovation and solutions. We are proud to strengthen our partnership with the Department of Water and Sanitation as we tackle one of South Africa's most pressing challenges: water security. Our strategic engagement with Deputy Minister Mahlobo David has established vital reforms to address water infrastructure, conservation, and sustainable management. As South Africa's only acknowledged water partnership in the National Water and Sanitation Master Plan, we recognise the urgency of our mission. "Water does not belong to government - it belongs to the people of our country." These words from Deputy Minister Mahlobo underscore our collective responsibility in securing our nation's water future. We're happy to share the first Dashboard for a Water Secure Gauteng, launched by the Platform for a Water Secure Gauteng (PWSG) in collaboration with our public sector co-chair, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) and key stakeholders. This innovative dashboard represents a significant step forward in transparent, data-driven water management for the region. It provides real-time insights into: 💦 Overall water consumption trends 💦 System status updates 💦 Infrastructure performance metrics 💦 Non-revenue water tracking 💦 Progress on municipal interventions The dashboard exemplifies what's possible when the public sector, private sector, and civil society work together towards a common goal. It will serve as a vital tool for all stakeholders to monitor and understand our water system's status and track our collective progress. We are grateful to Dr. Sean Phillips and the DWS team for their leadership in this initiative. This is just the beginning; the dashboard will continue to evolve with your feedback. 📊 View the full dashboard on the DWS website: https://lnkd.in/da8-gNcQ 📧 Share your feedback: pwsg@dws.gov.za #WaterSecurity #Gauteng #Sustainability #PublicPrivatePartnership #WaterManagement #SouthAfrica Michelle Proude Peter Varndell Alyssa Jooste Martin Ginster Rand Water Gisela Kaiser Miriam Altman Dietmar Niebuhr Phumzile Mdakane

Why are clean hands still important? Because they're our first line of defence against illness. 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰? 🙌 Handwashing can reduce diarrheal diseases by 30% 🙌 It can cut respiratory infections by up to 20% 🙌 It helps prevent outbreaks of diseases like cholera, Ebola, and COVID-19 Clean hands are about more than just hygiene though. They're a commitment to health, dignity, and well-being for all. #GlobalHandwashingDay #CleanHandsSaveLives #PublicHealth
