Today, the Durban Container Terminals hosted an event to officially launch and showcase recently commissioned straddle carriers and rubber-tyred gantries (RTGs). This initiative forms part of Transnet Port Terminals' broader project plan to invest in new equipment across terminals nationwide, enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery. The event, hosted by the Chairperson of the Board and Group Chief Executive, was attended by - amongst others - representatives from the eThekwini Mayor’s office, the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and shipping lines. This investment in state-of-the-art equipment is expected to further enhance Durban’s capacity to handle growing volumes and improve the overall efficiency of operations at the port, aligning with Transnet’s strategic vision for modernisation and sustainability. The ceremony also provided a platform for fostering collaboration between key stakeholders, all working towards strengthening South Africa's position as a leading maritime hub.
