Meet Locadia and Douglas Chatikobo, a couple who challenged traditional gender roles and transformed their lives. Through the Climate Adaptation for Rural Livelihoods project, they discovered the power of shared decision-making, mutual respect, and equality. As we observe the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, their story reminds us that addressing systemic inequalities within households and communities is a critical step toward ending GBV. By promoting gender equality through tools like the Gender Action Learning System (GALS), families like the Chatikobos are not only achieving balance and prosperity but also creating safer and more inclusive spaces for everyone. Last week, we hosted Dr. Mupetesi from @Farmers Association of Community Self-Help Investment Groups (FACHIG) to assess the impact of gender mainstreaming in the Climate Adaptation for Rural Livelihoods (CARL) project. This effort is changing lives through GALS—a powerful tool for promoting gender equality and sustainable development. 💪 Here’s how it works: 🔄 Level 1: Focuses on behavior change among participants 🌾 Level 2: Strengthens gendered value chain development for better livelihoods Through tools like the Change Action Tree, Gender Balance Tree, and Social Empowerment Map, CARL is helping women and men challenge gender norms, improve their livelihoods, and build stronger, more resilient communities. 💡 Thanks to support from the Embassy of Sweden in Zimbabwe and Oxfam in Zimbabwe, the project is advancing economic empowerment for women and youth while ensuring equitable access to resources. 🚀 Together, we’re creating a ripple effect of positive change that empowers everyone. 🌊 #GenderEquality #ClimateAction #WomenEmpowerment #YouthEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment #CommunityResilience

Meet 24-year-old Prisca Musarakufa. For the past three months, Prisca and her family have been among the 2,869 households receiving food aid. This support has provided much-needed relief in a community hit hard by an El Niño-induced drought that left crops withered and wells dry. 🌱 The aid package, which includes mealie meal, cooking oil, and sugar beans, has allowed families like Prisca's to rebuild and redirect resources toward other critical needs—like school fees for her children, healthcare, and even savings. 💪 "The food aid has made a big difference. It has helped us put together meals that keep us going,” says Prisca. “It’s not just food; it’s giving us a chance to create a better future for our family.” Oxfam in Zimbabwe IrishAid #Resilience #DroughtRelief #FoodAid #BRICZIM #ClimateResilience #CommunitySupport #SustainableFuture

#MondayMotivation Meet Philip Mutudza, a resilient farmer from Buhera Ward 25, who has turned the challenges of climate change and severe drought into an inspiring success story! With support from the Climate Adaptation for Rural Livelihoods (CARL) project, Philip has transformed his homestead into a model of sustainability and food security. With the restoration of the Romorehoto Wetland, Philip not only learned to protect wetlands but also gained the skill of fish farming. Recently, he harvested 33.4 kg of fish, earning $100.4 to support his family. Through natural resource management trainings conducted, he has adopted farmer-managed natural regeneration techniques which has revitalized 5 hectares of his woodland. But that’s not all! Using nutrient-rich water from his fish ponds, Philip nurtures a thriving garden, producing vegetables, green mealies and tomatoes that guarantee him at least US$3 a day. “The CARL project taught me about the food security-climate-natural resources-biodiversity nexus. I have implemented these lessons and now I sustain my family year-round,” he shares. This has been made possible with funding from Embassy of Sweden in Zimbabwe through Oxfam in Zimbabwe #FoodSecurity #ClimateAdaptation #SustainableFarming #Resilience #CommunitySuccess #ClimateCrisis #RuralDevelopment

As the 2024/2025 rainy season approaches, farmers in Ward 19 Mutasa District are taking proactive steps to boost their agricultural resilience. A nursery project has been established, nurturing 50,000 assorted trees, including peaches, apples, and gum trees. The positive impact of this initiative is already evident, as farmers are diversifying their agricultural practices. Inspired by the nursery project, many have realized the potential of fish farming. As seen in the picture, construction of a fish pond is underway, marking the beginning of a new venture for these enterprising farmers. This shift towards more sustainable and diversified agriculture demonstrates the community's commitment to improving their livelihoods and protecting the environment. The #TerraFund project has seen the successful planting of over 200,000 trees in Mutasa District, marking a tangible step towards sustainable forest management and community prosperity.
