It's January, which means many Brits are undergoing health transformations, including eating better and adopting a more robust exercise regime.

Part of this promise to yourself might be to eat more protein and whole foods, or it may just be to ensure you eat in a calorie deficit each week, regardless of what you actually consume, as you want to lose weight.

According to Heart.org, eggs are a go-to food for many looking to eat more mindfully. They share: "At just 78 calories each, eggs are an efficient, rich source of protein and vitamins. A large egg contains about 6 grams of protein. Eggs also are a good source of other nutrients, including vitamin D (which aids bone health and the immune system) and choline (which helps metabolism and liver function, as well as fetal brain development)."

That's why fitness influencer Eddie Abbew was so fuming with people who claimed that they were sick of eggs, captioning his rant on TikTok: "Eggs are a superfood. Find different ways of preparing them because they’re important for your long-term health."

WARNING: The following video contains language some viewers may find offensive.

He could be seen in the supermarket, saying that often people say: "Eddie, I'm bored of eating eggs for breakfast, what can I eat?" but he's sick of hearing it.

His 10-word questioning rant then left people pondering as he fumed: "Does a cow get bored of eating grass all day?" He then told people to "Wake the f*** up" and stop complaining, urging them to find a new recipe they liked that contains eggs.

According to BBC Good Food, "both the egg white and yolk are rich in nutrients," with the yolk containing "fat-soluble vitamins, including vitamins A, D and E, as well as fats including essential omega-3 fatty acids" and the "protein is found in the egg white."

They share that the health benefits of eggs include:

  • Nutritionally rich
  • Are a complete source of protein
  • Are a source of choline
  • May support heart health
  • May support eye health
  • May protect against sarcopenia
  • May support weight management
  • May support optimal body composition
  • May support the immune system
  • Have a low planetary impact

But how much protein is really in an egg? Well, "A medium-sized egg (53g) contains 7g of complete protein," and the BBC explained that a complete protein contains "all nine of the essential amino acids that we need for growth, development and repair."

The NHS highlight the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet, saying everyone should be "eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight."

The Eatwell Guide shows that to have a healthy, balanced diet, people should try to:

  • eat at least five portions of a variety of fruits and vegetables every day
  • base meals on higher fibre starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta
  • have some dairy or dairy alternatives (such as soya drinks)
  • eat some beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other protein
  • choose unsaturated oils and spreads, and eat them in small amounts
  • drink plenty of fluids (at least 6 to 8 glasses a day)
