My uncle told me to stop working on my startup “There are so many hiring tools out there, it’s a very saturated market,” he said. He was right—there’s a myriad of hiring tools competing with each other, yet hiring continues to be a major pain. We talked to recruiters who use the best of these tools. Here’s what we found: Recruiters get plenty of cool filtering, sorting, and searching tools to sift through all the applicants. The way these tools were built (and tech limitations) required recruiters to go through every application. Because keyword search is a bust, and AI rankings have lost trust. But what if you could find the top matches in an instant? What if you could account for implicit and implied skills? (unlike keyword search) What if there was no bias in this process? (via applied CIPD best practices and anonymized resumes) What if hiring could get 20% better for recruiters, teams and candidates? If I’ve piqued your interest, click the “Visit my website” button on my LinkedIn profile to learn more about Workcraft And if you agree with my uncle, tell me in the comments!

𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗴: 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝘁 🚩🚩🚩 I recently learnt something that blew my mind. During my job-hunting days as an accountant (I’ve had many of those, thanks to the global pandemic and the recession that followed), job ads including a requirement for ‘cultural fit’ or ‘person–organization fit’ was the norm. In theory, this meant that talent acquisition teams are looking for candidates whose values and behaviors match closely with that of the employers. However, in practice the term ‘cultural fit’ increases bias in hiring processes. Without a definition of what ‘cultural fit’ means, it becomes a placeholder to how similar candidates are to existing employees in terms of their experiences, appearances, or what they enjoy doing outside of work. This increases bias in hiring decisions, leading to a homogenous workforce - stifling diversity, creativity and innovation. While real cultural fit can predict performance, recruitment strategies need: ✅specific criteria of what skills/behaviors would qualify as cultural fit; and, ✅use of structured systems to objectively identify and assess these criteria. This specificity promotes unbiased hiring decisions that ultimately contribute to the team’s success (and do not actively take away from it). I read about this a few days ago while doing research for Workcraft, our AI powered hiring platform. Thanks to the key insights of many of the HR leaders we spoke to (more on that on my next post), we’re venturing into a new and exciting space in recruitment. This upgrade to Workcraft is not just going to automate manual hiring processes but support hiring teams in a way that’s only recently been possible due to the latest advancements in AI. We’re super excited to bring this cutting edge technology to recruitment, and if you’re in this space, you should be too! 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀? It is hardly a surprise that most job posts these days have degree requirements. Degrees are used as proxies for skills, professionalism, and basic competence - this is a phenomenon known as degree inflation. For companies, degree inflation is problematic as it limits access to a wider talent pool, making it difficult to fill roles. Moreover, it affects millions of individuals from low-income and marginalized backgrounds, who have the skills and ambition to do excellent work and build fulfilling careers. Sometimes, even when individuals have a degree, it may not be recognized due to a lack of standardization across foreign education systems and job markets. Employers hold tremendous power to correct this opportunity divide by rethinking their hiring practices. This is why moving from a credential-based system to a competency/skills-based system is not just sound business logic; it’s also a moral imperative. Identifying the exact skills required for a job is not straightforward, and discerning these qualities in job applicants via structured interviews and standardized feedback collection isn’t easy either. However, with the advancements in AI and tools like ours, it has become much easier than it used to be. To wrap up, here’s a photo of me receiving my degree, something that many talented individuals don’t get the privilege to do. What are your thoughts on skills-based recruitment? Have you had any experience/challenges with it? #SkillsBasedRecruitment #EquityInHiring #InclusiveWorkplace #TalentAcquisition #FutureOfWork #AIinHR #AIhiring
