Explaining how EVs work and countering misinformation is a major part of what the AEVA does. Our volunteers regularly run events and workshops where anyone can learn about electric propulsion. But did you know we also have a motorsport development committee? A team of volunteers around the country is working to foster interest in the electronics and engineering behind electric racing. Recently, Willowbank Raceway in Queensland declared that all production electric vehicles were no longer permitted to test or compete at their facilities, citing unreasonable risk. This is despite the mountains of evidence that EVs are an order of magnitude less likely to catch fire; that emergency services know exactly how to manage an EV fire should it occur, and that any modern vehicle will carry the same emergency access risks as an EV. The chassis of an EV will never be energised under any circumstance due to the floating HV traction circuit. The decision to allow hybrids to continue is an interesting one, considering they actually have a higher fire risk than EVs or ICE vehicles! Early in the new year, AEVA will be running a free public webinar led by Emma Sutcliffe and the EV FireSafe team on why these exclusions are based on misunderstandings and exaggerated perceptions of risk. EVs stand to save motorsport where noise complaints are shutting down tracks. Banning them from competition is totally unnecessary, and smacks of sour grapes.

About us
The Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA) LTD is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the cause of switching Australia's transport networks to electric drive as quickly as possible. We all share a common interest in electromobility and climate-friendly transport. Formed after the oil price shocks of 1973, the AEVA is the longest continuously running EV society in the world. We represent all EV users and enthusiasts, current and prospective, and are more than happy to offer jargon-free advice on which EV is right for you. We also make regular submissions to government and industry about policies which will help transition to electric drive, and away from imported fossil fuels for transport.

We sometimes refer to the Australian Capital Territory as 'Little Norway' and not just for it's signature cold winters! The ACT registered its ten thousandth battery electric vehicle! A combination of good government policies and a well-informed populace, driven in no small part by our energetic AEVA ACT branch, means they are the nation's leader in passenger EV sales. Congratulations Ken Berrans! https://lnkd..in/gn6arXFW

Many of our members use apps like A Better Route Planner to map out their EV charging stops on long trips. This app takes public data from charging networks, and overlays it with terrain and matches this to your EV for the best roadtrip charging plans. Unfortunately, The NRMA doesn't appear to provide public charger status details such that these these apps can propose a plan, creating dead spots in much of the country. We know the chargers are there and (probably) operational, but without live data, drivers can't plan ahead. When will this data become available from The NRMA?

Commonwealth support for transport electrification projects, including heavy vehicles, charging and EV uptake - contact ARENA for more information. The transition to electric drive doesn't happen by itself!
ARENA is accelerating the decarbonisation of the heavy transport sector on the road to Net Zero, including trucks, commercial vans and buses. ARENA's new $100 million Driving the Nation funding round aims to reduce the barriers to electric vehicle adoption for heavy vehicles, while also supporting innovation such as charging infrastructure, which will benefit the increased rollout of all types of EVs on the road. A very fun and productive weekend in Hobart for EVs. The AEVA's Tasmanian Branch, led by Jon Ettershank and the team put on a stellar conference and EV Expo as part of AEVAs 51st Annual General Meeting. At the expo we announced the winner of AEVA's inaugural Best Charger Award - acknowledging progress in public fast charging infrastructure for Australia's EV drivers. Congratulations to the RAA for the Snowtown fast DC charger in South Australia! Fast and reliable DC charging, pull-through access for those towing trailers or vans, well lit, under cover and close to toilets and restaurant. Chargers like these set the bar for other charge point operators around the country in getting the details right for a positive EV road-trip experience. Well done RAA and well done Snowtown!

Just a reminder that our fourth webinar for 2024 is broaching electric vehicle misinformation, disinformation, and outright lies. What's motivating these organizations to spread these outrageous claims? And why are so many easily swept up in the storm? Kicking off tomorrow (Thursday October 24th) at 8 pm AEDST, join our panelists, Belinda Noble, Lars Fredrik Lund Godbolt and Bridie Schmidt as we pick apart the fiction and the fact, and how to maintain momentum in the switch to electric drive and ignore the concern trolls. Register here for the webinar - As always, AEVA members can join for free, all others $15 (+GST). https://lnkd.in/dnEUmUQh

The AEVA was a founding member of the Global EV Alliance - an international community of EV associations with a common goal; to accelerate the full electrification of transport. GEVA is running it's first truly global EV user survey and we're proud to help cast the net far and wide! https://lnkd.in/g8ZMG9WZ If you live on planet Earth and get around in, or on an EV, please fill out the survey!
