The Victorian Government is seeking input to shape new guidance on pre-application engagement, ensuring supporting businesses to notify and consult communities about proposed industrial and waste management developments. Your feedback will help define what meaningful engagement looks like, balancing community expectations with industry responsibilities to protect human health and the #environment. Participate in the first stage of consultation, a short survey, and share your thoughts on how we can improve engagement outcomes for all Victorians. This feedback is open until 7 February 2025 https://lnkd.in/gkDx4rZc #CommunityEngagement #Sustainability #DevelopmentProposals #EnvironmentalProtection

About us
Established in 1983, the Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR) is the leading national industry association for the recycling and resource recovery sector in Australia. It represents some 50 businesses who are part of a successful $15 billion industry that employs some 50,000 Australians and generates exceptional environmental benefits for our society. ACOR’s members uniquely span the breadth and depth of Australian recycling, working towards a resourceful future. This includes businesses working: - to collect, sort and remanufacture recyclate into new products; - to beneficially manage materials from the residential, commercial, industrial, and major infrastructure areas, and; - with materials ranging from household packaging to tyres to container deposit scheme products to road construction material to batteries to e-waste and more. ACOR has long worked with businesses, community partners, stakeholders and governments to further develop a world-leading and domestically sustainable recycling system in Australia. As demonstrated by our 10 Point Plan, our core work includes: - contributing to decision-making for optimal recycling in a circular economy; - promoting standards and innovation for recycling business’ advantage and for societal benefit; - driving demand for recycled content products and recycling services, and; - managing sovereign risks for our members. The recycling and resource recovery sector is massively innovative, enterprising and results-driven. In line with that industry ethic, and to complement its public policy and advocacy work, ACOR uniquely undertakes practical projects, especially those aimed at reducing contamination in recycling and building better markets for recyclate.

Great to see Penny Sharpe MLC announcing plans for the NSW Government to introduce legislation for mandatory #battery regulation in 2025. This initiative aims to address the growing risks of battery-related fires and promote safe disposal practices through #productstewardship. #NSW and #Victoria presented a draft Regulatory Impact Statement at this week’s #EnvironmentMinistersMeeting, outlining options for reforms to ensure batteries are safely managed throughout their lifecycle. This includes measures for safer #battery disposal, #recycling initiatives, and public education campaigns. With over 10,000 battery-related fires and heat events a year across Australia waste and recycling systems, these actions are critical. Stakeholder consultation will shape the final regulations, including industry and local government input. https://lnkd.in/gNFhYaPn #BatterySafety #BatteryRegulations #BatteryRecycling #ProductStewardship #FireSafety #NSWEnvironment

#ACOR member Samsara Eco has announced a new development in #recycling technology: enzymes capable of infinitely recycling nylon 6, a synthetic fibre widely used in apparel, hosiery, and automotive. This advancement builds on their existing capabilities to recycle nylon 6,6 and polyester, aiming to reduce reliance on virgin plastics and address textile waste challenges. With less than 1% of textiles currently made from recycled materials, this innovation offers a potential pathway to greater circularity in the textile and fashion industries. Using their proprietary enzyme design platform, Samsara Eco seeks to enable precise and scalable recycling for various fibres, including mixed and dyed materials. https://lnkd.in/gjCMYrtj #TextileRecycling #ClimateTech #PlasticWaste #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #RecyclingInnovation
