One big project, two big announcements! Golden Plains Wind Farm is Go. The first turbines have started spinning and electricity fed into Victoria’s grid from Stage 1 of our 1,333MW mega-project - the southern hemisphere’s biggest wind farm. Energisation is a monumental achievement after 20 months of construction by a 400-strong workforce, including from our valued partner Vestas who is supplying and installing all 215 turbines. But wait, there’s more. While Stage 1 starts operating to accelerate the energy transition, we have a new investor to share in Stage 2. Ingka Investments, the investment arm of Ingka Group, the world’s biggest IKEA retailer, has taken a 15% stake in Stage 2 - its second investment in our project after taking a similar stake in Stage 1 in 2023 to supports its commitment to reach net-zero by 2050. We’re proud to be building a more renewable future with likeminded partners like Vestas and Ingka Investments at every stage of our projects. You can read more about both announcements here : https://lnkd.in/deaKPaTY (And thank you Lily D’Ambrosio MP and Kevin Blake for switching the wind-farm on!)

Need an extra shot of coffee with your concrete? ☕   We’re proud to have partnered with RMIT University, to have made Coffee Concrete a commercially viable option for our client Major Road Projects Victoria and asset owner Cardinia Shire Council on the Pakenham Roads Upgrade.   For a brand-new footpath, we poured 30m3 of RMIT’s innovative coffee concrete and by doing so we’re estimating that we saved close to 140,000 coffees from landfill and saved three tonnes of sand, a precious natural resource.   Here at BildGroup we’re committed to reducing our environmental impacts and investing in sustainable innovations. #PeoplePartnershipsProgress #SustainableInnovations #Concrete

The recent approval by the Federal Government for the construction of a third runway at #MelbourneAirport marks a significant milestone in addressing the growing demand for air travel in #Australia. With forecasts predicting a substantial increase in passenger numbers, the expansion aims to enhance the airport’s capacity and improve overall efficiency. The decision comes after years of planning and consultations, highlighting the importance of balancing economic growth with environmental considerations. The new runway is expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and in ongoing airport operations, bolstering local economies and providing a much-needed boost to the post-COVID recovery of the aviation sector. However, this development is not without its challenges. Concerns have been raised regarding environmental impacts, particularly in relation to noise pollution and habitat disruption. Stakeholder engagement has been a critical component throughout the approval process, ensuring that community voices are heard and addressed. The airport has committed to implementing measures to mitigate environmental impacts, such as noise abatement strategies and improved public transport access. #JohnstonPMC #JohnstonProjectManagementConsulting #MelbourneThirdRunway #MelbourneAirportRail #StakeholderEngagement #Rail #Infrastructure

Turning yesterday’s latte into the path towards tomorrow. MRPV and construction partner BildGroup have collaborated with RMIT University to use coffee biochar concrete for the first time on Victoria's Big Build on the Pakenham Roads Upgrade. Let’s hear from RMIT’s lead researcher Dr Rajeev Roychand about what it takes to turn coffee into concrete and how this product can help the construction industry take a huge step forward. 12 weeks of works in 26 seconds ⏱️ Between June and September, Major Road Projects Victoria crews working on the M80 Ring Road Completion have carried out works to move Greensborough Highway at Watsonia Road - creating the space needed to build the Watsonia Road landscaped bridge and connection to the North East Link tunnels. A new green bridge will also connect locals to Watsonia shopping precinct and brand-new commuter parking at Watsonia Station. Across the works, crews poured more than 7,800 tonnes of asphalt, completed over 5.8 kilometres of line marking, installed a new signalised intersection and traffic managed more than 65,000 vehicles during the final weekend blitz! This temporary realignment will be in place until mid–2026 and we’ll make further changes to the intersection as construction progresses. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4dVOOhM

♻️ The Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority Transport Infrastructure Decarbonisation Strategy has been released, with the optimised use of recycled and reused materials identified as a critical element in reducing the carbon footprint of our projects. 📖 ecologiQ is driven to build on the successes of recent years which has seen the adoption of recycled and reused materials double across transport infrastructure projects completed under the recycled first policy. Our work in continuing to connect suppliers to projects and remove barriers will be increasingly important as we accelerate towards net-zero in 2045. ❓ What is one of the best recycled or reused material innovations that also supports lower emissions?

  • Great reuse/recycling initiative North East Link 👍

100% with OC Connections ♻️ We’re using Eco T-Top Bollards across North East Link work sites, being the first Australian-made bollards that are 100% recycled plastic, collected from end-of-life bollards across Victoria. The bollards are made by OC Connections, a Melbourne-based social enterprise focused on providing employment opportunities to people with a disability. By reusing old bollards North East Link has saved over 510 kilograms of plastic waste from landfill to date, reducing the embodied carbon emissions on the project by approximately 840 kilograms! This initiative, backed by ecologiQ is driving the benefits of our growing circular economy – diverting even more waste from landfill. Recycled bollards are just another way we’re transforming Victoria’s waste and recycling sector, creating jobs, supporting industry and innovation and building new markets for recycled materials

  • ❓ Did you know.. that WSUD (Water Sensitive Urban Design) principals are widely adopted in Australian civil construction projects? These principals integrate water cycle management into urban design to enhance water quality and reduce flooding. 🌊 Some of the key WSUD techniques currently used on construction projects in Australia include: ♻ Stormwater harvesting and reuse - for non-potable uses such as irrigation and toilet flushing. 🚽 🌧 Bio-retention systems or Raingardens - used to filter pollutants through vegetation and soil. 🛣 Permeable pavements - used in carparks, bicycle tracks and low-traffic roads, which allow water to infiltrate, reducing runoff and promoting groundwater recharge. 🏡 Green roofs - vegetation on building roofs absorbs rainfall, reduces runoff and provides insulation, also enhancing biodiversity and urban aesthetics. 🚰 Rainwater tanks - collect rainwater for non-potable uses, reducing demand on mains (fresh) water and also reducing runoff. There are plenty more WSUD techniques being used in the industry that we haven't listed above, with new ideas being developed all the time. What have you been using on your construction project? Or what unique or innovative ideas have you seen lately? Tell us about it in the chat. #WSUD #sustainability #reuse #greenconstruction #WaterSensitiveUrbanDesign
