On Monday, the Toowoomba & Southwest FLPN and CatholicCare Social Services Southern QLD had the pleasure of hosting the workshop "Stepping Into Their Shoes: VR for DFV Understanding," led by incredible facilitators, Sera Harris and Dr Krystal S.. It was a valuable learning experience for me to step into someone else's shoes and gain a deeper understanding of coercive control. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

  • 🌟 Changing the Narrative on Suicide 🌟 Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, a day to stand together and raise awareness and offer support for those at risk. Suicide prevention looks different for everyone. however, there is always hope and support available. Changing the Narrative on Suicide is a call to action to "Start the Conversation". This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Changing the narrative on suicide is about transforming how we perceive this complex issue and shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. In Australia nine lives are lost to suicide, a heartbreaking reality that impacts countless lives. While each loss is deeply felt, there is hope in our collective efforts to prevent suicide. By combining our tools, resources, services, and support, we can work together to make a difference and support those at risk. There is a number of incredible support services available that we value and work alongside including Lifeline Australia. And if you know anyone at risk, we encourage you to do the following and remember there is 24/7 support. You can help. Be ALERT | 👉 Ask if they are thinking about suicide 👉 Listen and show you care 👉 Encourage them to get help 👉 Right now 👉 Tell someone If you are needing a little extra support, we are here to support you. We’re with you. Simply contact our office on 1300 477 433 or visit catholiccare.services to book an appointment. #worldsuicidepreventionday #starttheconversation #awareness #CatholicCare #Toowoomba #southwestqueensland #Wellbeing #Support #counselling #mentalhealth #YouMatter #MentalHealthMatters

Family Counsellor and Master's of Mental Health student

Today was the conclusion of the 'Seasons of Life' program that CatholicCare Social Services Southern QLD rolled out in one of our local schools through the Business Resilience Centre. I created this 7 week program to support the present needs of the students using the seasons as a guide: Summer: Self-Confidence and Growth Autumn: Change and Letting Go Winter: Self-Reflection and Self-Love Spring: Starting Fresh We would spend time discussing these topics together and would conclude each session by adding to our art canvases, which you can see pictured here. What a talented bunch they are! We concluded the program today by celebrating with yummy food, sharing our final thoughts and finishing with a brief presentation of the art we each created. The students said they were sad for the end of the program, and the feeling is definitely mutual! I am very thankful to have had this opportunity and want to thank everyone for their support, in particular my co-fascilitator Robyn from our mediation Team, my Team Leader Leah Millward for her wisdom and guidance and Amanda Shelton for supporting the delivery and all things business! • This month is a special one! 2 Decades of TRAMS! 🌠 June marks a significant milestone as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of TRAMS, a beacon of hope and empowerment for migrants and refugees in our Toowoomba community. 🌍✨ For two decades, TRAMS has been dedicated to providing essential support and resources to individuals and families as they embark on their journey to build a new life. From language and education programs, employment assistance, community engagement, driving and rental assistance and health and wellbeing advocacy; our commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment has never wavered. Over the years, we've had the privilege of witnessing countless success stories from South Sudan, Congo, Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq — stories of resilience, determination, and the unyielding human spirit. Together, we have created a vibrant tapestry of cultures, experiences, and dreams, enriching our community in ways we could have only imagined. This milestone would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our staff, our incredible and selfless volunteers, our fellow community and advocacy partners, and the Toowoomba community at large. Your dedication and generosity have been the backbone of our mission, and we are profoundly grateful. As we look to the future, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support and empower migrants and refugees. Here's to many more years of making a difference, one story at a time. 🌟 Thank you for being a part of our journey. We look forward to sharing more over the next month on our journey through the past 2 decades. #Anniversary #Empowerment #Community #Support #Migration #Refugees #CatholicCare #TRAMS #Inclusion #Diversity #20YearsStrong #sharethestories
