Centennial Park proudly announces a first for South Australia with the introduction of a sustainable living memorial for families to commemorate their loved ones. Partnering with Living Legacy Forest, Centennial Park will exclusively offer the unique living memorial option as part of its Environmental Sustainability Plan launched in August this year. The Living Legacy process transforms human ashes into organic micronutrients which can sustain and perpetuate life through a flower bed, closing the circle of life and providing a sustainable alternative to traditional memorials. Centennial Park is a beautiful community space to commemorate loved ones and to celebrate the wonder of life.
About us
At Centennial Park, we’re proud to provide a beautiful, peaceful and reflective community space for all South Australians—from all cultural backgrounds—to enduringly commemorate their loved ones. Established in 1936 in the foothills of Adelaide’s inner south, with sweeping views of the city and glimpses of the ocean, our park has long been considered the state’s premier cemetery. Our beautifully landscaped grounds span 40 hectares (100 acres) and include over 30 thoughtfully designed gardens and burial areas, along with three unique chapels in our award-winning Jubilee Complex. Centennial Park is the resting place of more than 140,000 individuals, including many historic figures, and provides a valuable emotional “anchor point” for their friends and families. We continue to raise community awareness of different ways to mark, and cope with, a loved one’s passing. We also regularly stage meaningful community events that respectfully embrace the essence of life—such as art and music, theater, food and more—to strengthen South Australians’ sense of connection to the park, both before and after loss. Centennial Park is open all year ‘round, and we invite you to experience our tranquil grounds first-hand.

With gratitude for her significant contribution, Centennial Park announces that Chief Executive Officer, Janet Miller, has decided to leave Centennial Park on December 24th this year, after nine years in the role. Janet believes that now is the right time for a new Chief Executive Officer to set the course for the next chapter in the Park’s history. "Janet leaves the Park in a strong position. The Board is thrilled with her many achievements that have changed the way in which our community perceives Centennial Park including the creation of a unique sculptural walk and the unveiling of the truly iconic hands sculpture at the entrance; the construction of our Café and Function spaces, a first for a South Australian cemetery, and the recent development of the five-year environmental sustainability plan. Though Janet has delivered many tangible milestones throughout her time at Centennial Park perhaps her greatest success has been building an extraordinary team culture focused on sustaining the Park as a community asset for future generations to enjoy” said Amanda Heyworth, Board Chair of Centennial Park. Janet shared, “I am so thankful to have been part of such a professional but caring and compassionate team as the one at Centennial Park; a team united by a common purpose – to create a place for the living; a vibrant community hub. A place where life is cherished, commemorated, contemplated, and celebrated. This collaborative culture has contributed immeasurably to the development and successful implementation of strategies to ensure long-term financial sustainability and enabled us to provide the best possible experience for all who come to Centennial Park.” Centennial Park looks forward to announcing the appointment of an Acting Chief Executive Officer while a thorough recruitment process is undertaken. #leadership #CentennialParkCemetery #ceo

Adelaide was the host city for this year’s Australasian Cemeteries & Crematoria Association Conference at Adelaide Oval. Team members Kathryn Eaton and Philip Peluso were in attendance and our Executive Manager Operations Mike Rusby took part in the panel discussion on limited tenure. We also welcomed conference attendees from as far away as Bunbury, WA and the UK to Centennial Park, showcasing the cemetery, memorial gardens, sculptures and Wildflowers Café and sharing our community engagement activities and Environmental Sustainability Plan. #ACCA #funeralindusry #cemeteries #crematoria #memorialpark #endoflife #environmentalsustainability #community

At Centennial Park, our Environmental Sustainability Plan will build upon our achievements to date by not only reducing our use of natural resources but showcasing future thinking in the way we deliver our services, enhance nature and engage our visitors and employees. We already have a strong history of environmental action having reduced carbon emission by 48 per cent since 2008 and reducing waste to landfill from 200 tonnes per year in 2013 down to 7 tonnes per year in 2023. We also plant on average 2,500 trees a year in partnership with Trees For Life, have transitioned to electric-battery powered plant and equipment and generating 1/3 of our annual electricity needs through solar panels. Recently, we launched our Environmental Sustainability Plan - our 5-year roadmap to achieve long-term environmental sustainability in the way we operate and connect to our community. We were joined by The Honourable Susan Close MP, Deputy Premier and Minister for Climate, Environment and Water who said, “This is exactly what needs to happen to address the challenges of nature being erased in large parts of the world and this looming climate catastrophe that we’re all facing. This is something that affects all of us and we need to respond collectively” Our CEO, Janet Miller said “despite our small environmental footprint on global scale, we recognise that our planet is at a critical point and like everyone we must act now in an effort to reduce the effects of global warming and restore nature to ensure a liveable future for all” Special thanks to all our partners and parliament members who joined us for the Launch. Your continued support will be critical in the implementation of our Plan. As we progress through our ESP, we look forward to sharing our positive environmental outcomes and achievements. Centennial Park is a special community place that plays a role in the wellbeing of so many. As custodians, we recognise the need to not only care for this beautiful #environment but protect it for generations to come. Introducing our Environmental Sustainability Plan - a five-year commitment to minimising the impact of our operations, enhancing our natural habitat while maximising the positive contribution we make. 5 key themes form the foundation of our Plan each with their own initiatives and goals: 🌏 #Resilient – adapting to our changing climate ☀ #Vibrant – enhancing our natural spaces and habitat 💨 #Decarbonise – developing a net zero carbon emissions pathway 🌱 #Endoflife Choices – integrating sustainable options 🍃 #Connected – driving education, connection and wellbeing Our new goals have been formed following extensive research and collaboration with experts, including Suzanne Ridding who thoughtfully considered the biodiversity of our Park, the changing environment, climate resilient operations as well as environmentally conscious memorial choices. We hope to create a lasting impact by sharing our ideas and working together with our community to achieve the positive environmental outcomes for our Park and support our #planet as a whole. 🔗Learn more about our Environmental Sustainability Plan here: https://lnkd.in/gejxkG5c #Adelaide #SouthAustralia #CentennialParkAdelaide #CentennialParkESP #SustainableFuture #ClimateChange #ClimateAction #GlobalGoals

Thank you APG Team for your continued hard work, ensuring Derrick Gardens is at its best for Anzac Day. Our Park gates will open early at 6.30am for those who wish to visit a loved one and pay respects at dawn. There is no official dawn service at Centennial Park but many local RSLs and Community Centres will be conducting services.
The team at APG (Adelaide Property and Gardens) have been at Centennial Park Cemetery preparing Derrick Gardens ahead of the ANZAC Day visits tomorrow, and it is looking immaculate. APG's turf professionals have worked tirelessly over the past week to complete the mowing, edging, and tidying around the memorial area, including 2000+ headstones that pay tribute to past servicemen and women. Every year, local students share in the duty of placing flags on each marker as a sign of respect. APG are honoured and proud to have worked with Centennial Park for the past ten years. Lest we forget.

Recently, we welcomed Scotch College Adelaide to our Park. As a commemoration for Anzac Day, the school delivered a reflective service at our Cross of Remembrance in Derrick Gardens. The tribute is a poignant reminder of our country’s freedom and has been an important event in the school's calendar for over 30 years. The dedicated students then placed Australian flags on every memorial in Derrick Gardens. A spectacular sight, the flags will remain until after Anzac Day. #CentennialParkAdelaide #CentennialParkCemetery #Adelaide #SouthAustralia #AnzacDay2024 #Anzacs #AnzacSpirit #AnzacTribute

Recently the Centennial Park team had the privilege of presenting a community forum on end-of-life planning to constituents of Morialta. Hosted by John Gardner, over 80 people joined the conversation, and were provided with valuable information about the legal aspects of end-of-life planning and their final farewell celebrations. We look forward to working with other local Councils and members of Parliament, and assisting communities to learn more, start conversations and make the best end-of-life choices for themselves and their families. #CentennialParkAdelaide #CentennialParkCemetery #Adelaide #SouthAustralia #planningahead #planningforthefuture #endoflifeplanning
