One year ago, the Australian Government released the nation's first international development policy in a decade. The Lab’s Heather Murphy, Bridi Rice and Richard Moore have taken a look at what's happened since. This week, we’re launching a new brief: International Development Policy - One Year On. In it, we've highlighted progress to date, what's still to come, and what we’ll be watching for in the next twelve months – and beyond. Once again great to see expert, local, non-government insights from the Lab's Pulse Check informing the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's latest Development Partnership Plans. 🔴 Timor-Leste: https://ow.ly/excm50UFPgq 🔴 Southeast Asia (Regional): https://ow.ly/lJhl50UFPgp At the Lab, we believe local intelligence and insights should be front and centre in policy decision-making. The Pulse Check x Southeast Asia asks 300+ Southeast Asian experts the choices and trade-offs they would make if they were in the shoes of Australian policymakers. The latest country reports are released on a rolling basis: https://ow.ly/vcf350UFPgs

It was a pleasure to be part of the panel discussing Australian aid: statecraft, contest, and public opinion at AAC 2024. Melissa Conley Tyler, Dr Cameron H. and Jack Hennessy had a great discussion together with those attending the session, facilitated by Benjamin Day. My presentation on ‘The costs of contest: how geostrategic competition and fragility interact’ was based on the Lab’s analysis on a dynamic that is emerging in some low- and middle-income countries in the Indo-Pacific: the interaction between geostrategic competition and fragility. Read the full brief here: https://lnkd.in/gk-WRceD
Yesterday #AP4D Executive Director Melissa Conley Tyler was pleased to share the results of consultations with almost 40 experts on #economicstatecraft at #AAC2024. The session on #statecraft, contest and public opinion also featured Development Policy Centre's Dr Cameron H., Development Intelligence Lab's Martina Zapf, The Fred Hollows Foundation's Jack Hennessy and The Australian National University's Benjamin Day.
