Disaster season brings a unique set of challenges, but we want to make sure that no community faces them alone. Foodbank Queensland, in partnership with Amazon Australia and Australian Red Cross, have supplied six Disaster Relief Supply Points with over 55,000 critical relief items to best prepare local communities when natural disasters strike. In Tasmania's Central Highlands, Foodbank Tasmania has been on the ground, providing Blaze Aid volunteers with fresh bread, drinking water, frozen meals, and emergency relief hampers. At Foodbank, ensuring communities have access to food and supplies during disaster season is just the beginning. We’re also here to support their recovery in the months—and sometimes years—that follow.

Foodbank Victoria’s School Breakfast Clubs Program is celebrating an incredible milestone of 50 million meals served. That’s millions of bowls of cereals, slices of toast and pieces of fresh fruit in the tummies of students across Victoria. Every day, 400,000 Victorian school kids can access a nutritious meal to start their day thanks to Foodbank Victoria and the support of the Victorian Government. Over 630,000kg of bananas! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our partners and Australia’s banana growers, we sourced over 630,000kg of this nutritious and delicious yellow fruit last year. As households feel the squeeze of rising cost-of-living pressures, many are cutting back on everyday essentials like food and groceries. Sadly, reducing spending on fresh produce is one of the top three ways people are coping. That’s why making fresh, healthy food available to communities in need throughout Australia is so important—and we’re deeply grateful we can make this happen. Ending hunger in Australia is no small task. It takes the dedication of our donors, transport providers, and our partners. For the second year running, McCain Foods has generously donated 24 hours of production at their Ballarat site to create over 106,000 frozen meals for Foodbank, including Tuna Mornay and Chicken Kiev. But their generosity didn’t stop there—McCain is also covering the transport costs to deliver these meals to Foodbank warehouses across the country. This amazing effort saw 118 dedicated workers on the factory floor contribute to the donation drive, producing meals valued at $1 million alongside 162,000 bags of peas. With 3.4 million households in Australia struggling to afford the food they need, this donation will provide critical relief. Tony’s vision and commitment have left a lasting legacy, strengthening collaboration, trust, and advocacy efforts like the push for a National Food Donation Tax Incentive. At a time when 3.4 million households are struggling to put food on the table, the Federal Government needs to address the growing calls for a food donation tax incentive. This practical solution has the potential to help halve Australia’s food waste by 2030 while delivering 100 million nutritious meals annually to food relief organisations—support that is urgently needed during the cost-of-living crisis. In the same week that two government reports were handed down both recommending the adoption of the food donation tax incentive as a targeted non-inflationary measure to address cost of living pressures, the Senate economics committee has rejected the Bill that would have brought the incentive to life. By rejecting this bill, the Federal Government is letting down the thousands of small-medium businesses that grow and produce vital fresh fruit and veg that could end up on the tables of millions of people facing food insecurity and not in land fill. We’re calling on the Government to take immediate action toward a hunger-free Australia. This rejection isn’t the end of the story. Support for this initiative is growing stronger by the day.
