I recently completed the Intopia Making PDFs accessible online course. The course was challenging, rewarding, and a little confronting. Confronting in the sense that I began to realise that some resources that I have worked on over the years are not as accessible as I had thought. Accessible communication is an evolving space and so continuing to learn, develop new skills, and partner with experts and lived experience is vital. https://lnkd.in/g4ic_X6X #AccessibleCommunication

  • We’re thrilled to have Lauren R. join the Intopia team! Lauren has a lot of experience in accessibility. Her passion for user-friendly digital products stems from having a family member with Parkinson's. She started her journey in QA and moved into consulting. "I’m obsessed with digital products that are intuitive to use. When I find one, I can’t help but think about the people and thoughts that went into creating it", she shares. What first drew her to Intopia was our collaborative and practical approach to accessibility. "I love how we guide digital teams to create brilliant experiences with empathy and without pressure. It’s fulfilling to be part of a team that’s unafraid to take deep dives to improve how we work and what we deliver". We’re so glad you’re with us Lauren!

  • Today is Human Rights Day. This year’s theme, 'Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now', calls for urgent action. Human rights empower us to build a more inclusive, equal, and sustainable world. Globally, one in five people have a disability. Yet, barriers in work, study, and daily life remain all too common. Equal rights and opportunities are fundamental. For people with disabilities, this means: - Breaking down barriers to accessibility - Promoting dignity and autonomy - Ensuring full participation in society Australia has ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which applies a human rights lens to disability. We also have the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA). This promotes equal rights, access, and opportunity for people with disabilities. Not sure what the DDA covers? Here’s a helpful guide from the Australian Human Rights Commission: https://buff.ly/4f8nexp On this Human Rights Day, let’s reflect on how we can create a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. #HumanRightsDay #Inclusion #Accessibility

Edit: The answer is D. Approximately 90% of disabilities are invisible (Department of Commerce). Many disabilities aren’t visible. These include chronic pain, mental health conditions, and neurodiversity. #IDPWD #IDPWD2024
