Arup's new workplace in Perth stands as a remarkable example of design that prioritises sustainability, wellbeing, and a strong connection to Country. It’s gratifying to see this project, built on these foundational values, receive well-deserved recognition. The design incorporates the reuse of materials, non-toxic finishes, and biophilic principles, creating an innovative and sustainable space. It’s a great reminder of the positive impact thoughtful design can have on both the environment and the people who interact with these spaces daily. The combination of ERCO and Coolon LED Lighting on the project contributed to the creation of this innovative and sustainable space, and we're proud to have been part of it. Congratulations to all those involved in bringing this vision to life. . . . Hames Sharley Peter Farmer Miranda-Lee Farmer Built. Architecture & Design (Australia)
Our workplace in Perth has won the 2024 Sustainability Award for Interior Design – for designing spaces that contribute positively to the environment and human wellbeing inclusive of the supply chain, the construction workers and our people. We co-designed the workplace with architect Hames Sharley, Indigenous Design consultant Peter Farmer Design, Miranda-Lee Farmer and construction partner Built., creating a welcoming environment that has a strong connection to Country. The spaces incorporate biophilic design principles, non-toxic materials and material reuse by incorporating salvaged brick slips in our winter garden, reusing old cable trays, refurbishing furniture, incorporating salvaged laminate boards in our joinery and sourcing locally storm-felled timber for use within the workplace. We are pursuing the Living Building Challenge (LBC), a globally recognised certification from the International Living Future Institute (ILFI) for sustainable and regenerative buildings and the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) WELL Standard. We have recently tested our air quality as part of the performance verification process required and are actively monitoring our energy and water consumption to track our performance against the targets. “The project stands as a testament to Arup’s leadership in sustainable and healthy workplace design, setting a new benchmark for future developments.” – Sustainability Awards Architecture & Design (Australia) Read more about the project: https://bit.ly/3V5fmFX Images © Dion Robeson Photography
