📢📢📢 Australian Medical Angels is taking a huge leap forward! 📢📢📢 We are beyond delighted to announce that Australian Medical Angels has secured funding from LaunchVic to establish a new venture fund. This initiative, part of the Victorian Government's $2.4 million investment in eight new VC funds, is set to inject vital early-stage capital into Victorian startups. As Australia’s largest syndicate of clinician and health-focused angel investors, this funding will enable us to launch an early-stage VC fund focused on advancing the next generation of health-related startups. Led by our co-founders Dr Amandeep Hansra and Dr Bi, Mian, the new fund is poised to make a significant impact on advancing cutting-edge healthcare solutions and strengthening the healthcare innovation ecosystem. The startup ecosystem has grown significantly in recent years, with the number of startups in Victoria more than tripling since 2017. However, early-stage venture capital remains a critical need. We are honored to contribute to this initiative, which aims to channel over $300 million into Victorian startups, thanks to the support of the Victorian Government and LaunchVic. Last night, the Australian Medical Angels team had the privilege of attending the LaunchVic Startup Gala Ball in Melbourne, and what a night it was! We were lucky to have two tables of extra special Med Angels guests, and we connected with the best and the brightest of the startup ecosystem, including many of our beloved portfolio founders and investors 🌟 A highlight of the evening was our co-founder, Dr Amandeep H., being selected to participate in a panel discussion with Rachael Neumann, Ben Armstrong and Leigh Jasper. At the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH) #hic2024 conference this week, our Australian Medical Angels cofounder, Dr Amandeep H., participated in a panel with incredible women leaders in digital health and entrepreneurship: Dr Talat Uppal, Dina Titkova, Angela Ryan, and Danielle Bancroft, discussing femtech and women’s health. The discussion underscored the urgent need for better representation and research on how health issues affect women differently, and how we need women to be leading these efforts (to state the obvious!) While celebrating Flo Health Inc. becoming a unicorn and recognising the potential of the women’s health market, it comes as a surprise that this business was founded by men, and is equally shocking that in 2022, only 0.7% of all venture capital in Australia went to 100% female-founded and led businesses. At Australian Medical Angels, gender diversity is a critical consideration when evaluating companies. 🌟🌟🌟 Women of CICA Lab Session Recap 🌟🌟🌟 Last night, we had the pleasure of hosting another cosy 'Women of CICA Lab' virtual session. Dr Amandeep H. guided our conversation with Katharine Giles, who took us through her incredible journey through many dimensions of the healthcare industry 💫 Katharine, originally a medical doctor by training, currently serves as the CEO of OncoRes Medical, a Venture Partner at Brandon Capital, and is a board member at Sonic Healthcare. She shared her journey through the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship, describing it as equally demanding and highly rewarding and exciting. Katharine also offered her unique perspective as a female CEO and investor, providing valuable insights into navigating these roles.
