NOPSEMA hosted a Better Practice Forum on Decommissioning - Now and Into the Future on Wednesday 20 November in Perth. The day-long forum brought together stakeholders in the offshore energy industry to discuss policies, challenges and developments in the decommissioning space. The aim of the forum was to share insights between NOPSEMA, as the independent regulator, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) and industry titleholders on how to implement best practice in future decommissioning projects. CEO Sue McCarrey welcomed guests and gave an Acknowledgment of Country before a diverse program unfolded on key issues surrounding decommissioning. Some of the subjects covered included policy and regulatory changes, environmentally responsible decommissioning, titleholder consultation best practice, maintenance of structural integrity during late-life operations and ensuring worker health and safety. This Better Practice Forum gave regulators and industry guests a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges posed by the decommissioning of offshore energy projects.
