About us
Origin is one of Australia's leading energy companies, exploring, generating and delivering energy to over 4 million customer accounts. Our purpose – getting energy right for our customers, communities and planet – drives everything we do. As Australia's largest energy retailer, we have an important role to play in providing electricity, natural gas, solar and LPG to Australian communities and work every day to make energy more affordable, more sustainable, smarter and easier for our customers. We are committed to leading the transition to a cleaner energy future and believe our company, and the energy industry more broadly, should be at the forefront of action to reduce carbon emissions. Origin was the first Australian company to set an emissions reduction target endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – aiming to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions by 2032, as we work towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Through the Origin Energy Foundation, we support programs that use education to help break the cycle of disadvantage and empower young Australians to reach their potential, contributing more than $27 million to support community organisations since 2010. Australia’s largest power station, Eraring, will also host the largest operating battery or battery project under construction in the Southern Hemisphere, after Origin approved a third stage of the Eraring large-scale battery which will expand the total dispatch duration to 2,800 MWh. This ensures Eraring will remain at the heart of Australia’s energy system for decades to come. Origin’s storage portfolio continues to grow and will play an important role in helping to help keep the grid stable and support increased variable renewable energy. CEO Frank Calabria spoke to ABC Radio National’s Andy Park about the significant change occurring in the energy market with the growth in variable renewable energy and as we prepare for the retirement of the nation’s coal fired power stations. They discussed Australia’s long-term ambition to be net zero by 2050 and the changes required to the way the National Electricity Market works to ensure it remains fit for purpose and able to drive investment in the right mix of technologies that can deliver good outcomes across reliability of supply, cost to customers and emissions reduction. The upcoming post-2030 review of the NEM is an important opportunity we must grasp to set our energy market up for the long-term so it can continue to support the economic and social well-being of the nation.

Thanks to the Origin Energy Foundation, a number of Origin employees recently drove 750 kilometres across Arnhem Land, NT, bringing education resources and public solar lighting to some of Australia’s most remote Aboriginal schools and communities. Our people were touched by the warmth of the community members who welcomed them onto their country and generously shared their culture.
