We are honoured to be one of 90 pet-passionate charities across Australia that will benefit from the Petbarn Tree of Hope appeal, which aims to raise $1.3m between now and Christmas. Anyone can donate any amount - big or small. In the first three weeks alone, more than $700,000 has been raised nationally. Here's Jesse from the Norwood store with more information on how you can get involved.

Non-profit Organizations
Sophie's Legacy aims to reduce the rate of suicide within the vet profession and improve their working conditions.
About us
Sophie was an extraordinary Vet who died by suicide at the age of 33. To honour Sophie, her family has established Sophie's Legacy with the goal to reduce the rate of suicide within the vet profession and improve their working conditions. There is evidence that the veterinary industry is in a mental health crisis. In the past 30 years the risk of suicide in veterinary professionals has been reported to have steadily increased. A report published in 2008 reports that veterinarians are four times more likely to die by suicide than the general population. Sophie was one of these statistics. We want to reverse this trend. Help us to help Sophie’s friends and colleagues.

Surround yourself with good people who lift you higher 🙌 A huge thanks to the SASH Adelaide Team for inviting us to be part of their first full day education seminar for vets and vet nurses. It was an insightful day with 11 live lectures and plenty of opportunities to network. All proceeds will be donated to Sophie's Legacy so we are super grateful for their efforts 🙏 SASH - the Small Animal Specialist Hospital

We are thrilled to have Stones Corner Veterinary Sugery support us in the lead up to Christmas through their Santa Paws fundraising drive. They're hoping to raise $500 and are asking clients and other supporters to donate via gold coin donation, or online via the QR code or this link: https://lnkd.in/gsGBzfis Their support means we can continue to be a strong voice for veterinary professionals.

Congratulations to Showpony who have won two awards for the Sophie’s Legacy LOST campaign at the Adelaide Advertising and Design Club Annual Awards. It’s the second time we’ve teamed up with this amazingly talented team - first for We’re Only Human and then for Lost. Both campaigns gained national and international traction. The Showpony team were compassionate, generous with their time and ideas and executed the brief perfectly. These are well-deserved accolades 👏

ICYMI - the veterinary crisis will be examined through a parliamentary inquiry in the South Australian Parliament in a bid to curb the worrying number of suicides in the sector. Last night the motion passed the Upper House and today it’s expected to pass the Lower House. Thank you to former vet Sarah Game MLC for your efforts and to Casey Treloar for the exclusive coverage

BREAKING NEWS: A motion moved by Sarah Game MLC to examine the veterinary mental health crisis has passed the Legislative Council in the South Australian Parliament and is expected to get the support of the Lower House tomorrow. The inquiry will examine poor remuneration, long working hours, high work load pressures and the wellbeing of veterinary professionals. Garry and Kate Putland have welcomed this important milestone which was covered by Casey Treloar in an exclusive report on 7NEWS Australia tonight.

High suicide rates in the veterinary profession aren't just happening in Australia - they're being reported in other countries where people like us are keen to help. We've been approached by James Glass, a vet of 30 years who is now conducting PhD research into suicidal behaviour at the Glasgow University. His team has set up a survey and are encouraging anyone with links to the profession to take part, if they feel comfortable doing so. The research is being supervised by Professor Rory O'Connor - current president of the International Association for Suicide Prevention, and a world leader on suicide research and prevention. If you'd like to take part, visit https://lnkd.in/gBkNdnYW and remember, if you or anyone you know needs help you can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
