Which teams grew their social media following most in 2024? TikTok was the channel that saw the most growth, overtaking Instagram in terms of followers gained. Clubs focusing on this high-growth platforms with behind-the-scenes and youth-focused content have benefitted from these tailwinds. The top 20 includes six NRL teams that did not make Finals (and the three at the bottom of the ladder), showing team performance is just one ingredient in driving social engagement. Other innovations such as Melbourne Victory Football Club's viral violinist, cross-promoted by A-Leagues league account, delivered over 18M views on TikTok. Clubs with high social media following already benefit from cross-promoting their other platforms. When looking at growth rate as a percentage, Women's teams and challenger brands dominate (coming soon). Follow Scout for more sport and sponsorship insights in 2025, and congratulations to the social media teams behind the teams of the top 20! Other winners include team partners, e.g. McDonald's and KFC sponsor all but three of the top 20 teams. Reach out to Mark Isaacs or Alexander MacAdie to learn more about Scout Benchmark access.
