We provide the spark for a bright future

About us

At Stanwell, we provide the spark for a bright future. As Queensland transforms to 80 per cent renewable energy by 2035, Stanwell is building our state’s clean energy future. We invest in reliable energy today, and renewable energy for tomorrow – creating opportunities for our people and communities. With Queensland's largest pipeline of renewable generation and storage in development, we already have an extensive supply of clean energy underway. As our renewable energy production increases to meet demand, we will gradually repurpose our existing power stations into clean energy hubs, replacing coal-fired energy with clean, renewable energy in line with the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan. And while this transformation is undertaken, our coal-fired Tarong and Stanwell power stations will continue to generate reliable electricity to keep downward pressure on prices. At Stanwell we are committed to creating a bright future for our state and our people, helping them realise opportunities from the energy transformation. Stanwell is an energy employer for everyone. We foster an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone is embraced and respected. Our values - We care, We adapt and We deliver - are the foundation of our culture and underpin our success.

Construction on Stage 1 of our Tarong Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is nearing the finish the line, as Tesla technicians have commenced commissioning of the first 82 lithium-ion Megapack units. Meanwhile, construction on Stage 2 is progressing smoothly, with all high-voltage cabling now installed. The 300 MW, two-hour duration Tarong BESS is the first battery energy storage asset in Stanwell’s renewable energy portfolio, and is on track to commence operations in mid-2025. Once operational, the battery will soak up energy generated during the day and then discharge electricity into the grid during periods of low energy generation or peak demand. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to advance this transformative project, or visit our website to find out more about our energy storage projects: https://bit.ly/3YKPHVj

🚀H2GP Kicks off at Gladstone State High School with an all boys and all girls team. This year, Gladstone State High School will compete in H2GP for the third time, as part of their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) program. 👏 Their task is to design, engineer and build a hydrogen fuel cell-powered remote-control car and test it during a 4-hour race. Students are free to experiment with 3D design – updating the gear-to-wheel ratio, car weight distribution, or even designing the entire chassis with digital modelling software. 🏎️ Stanwell is a major sponsor for this event - delivered by Horizon Educational - and, as mentors, will support these clever kids throughout their project journey, inspiring the future of Gladstone by introducing them to the renewables industry. Together, we will race towards a clean energy future. Thanks to the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and CQUniversity. #H2GP #STEMEducation #Innovation #SustainableEnergy #Stanwell #GHSRacing #H2GrandPrix

  • 🌟 Stanwell at CQU's Business and Accounting Industry Insights Evening 🌟 Last week, Sue Hall and Rachael Wright-Coxon proudly represented Stanwell at Central Queensland University's Business and Accounting Industry Insights Evening. 🎓✨ The event aimed to introduce local Year 10 students with a passion for business and accounting to industry professionals. Sue and Rach, equipped with their presentation and hardhats, enthusiastically shared their love for Accounting and highlighted Stanwell as an excellent place for future employment, graduate programs, or work experience. 💼👷♀️ This was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the university, the next generation of accountants, and fellow professionals in the Rockhampton Region. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive! Kudos to Sue and Rach for their outstanding representation! 👏👏 #Stanwell #Accounting #FuturePathways #CQUniversity #RockhamptonRegion #IndustryInsights

  • We’re proud to see the Department of Energy and Climate shining the spotlight on Stanwell’s very own Luke Sondergeld! One of our dedicated Health and Safety Advisors in our Operations Division, Luke’s work helps to ensure Queensland’s energy production remains among the safest and cleanest in the nation. Luke’s expertise is also instrumental in adapting safety standards for Stanwell’s renewable energy projects. In an industry undergoing rapid transformation, Luke’s role is crucial in developing industry-leading standards that will protect workers and help Queensland move towards our clean energy future.

"I am excited to continue to develop industry-leading standards that will ensure Queensland has the cleanest, safest, and most reliable energy production in Australia.” As part of Work Safe Month, we caught up with Luke, a Health and Safety Advisor in the Operations Division at Stanwell Corporation Limited. His work to champion the highest safety standards intersects with the rapidly evolving field of renewable energy generation, where technological progress continues at a rapid pace and challenges established procedures and ways of working in the industry. “The evolving nature of renewable energy, and the subsequent projects that are born from it, are setting new standards in the way we deliver energy." “As we deploy these technologies, whether established like solar and wind, or developing like renewable hydrogen production, the standards and codes of practice are being developed alongside these projects.” It’s an important role, and the work he does day-in and day-out helps guide the way Queenslanders deliver and operate energy assets now and in the future. This Work Safe Month, we extend our thanks to WH&S advisors such as Luke, who continue to improve the lives of workers within the energy sector. 🔋🚀 Project Update: Charging Ahead with Energy Storage! 🚀🔋 We're making great progress on our 1200 MWh Stanwell Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Over the past two months, a massive 100,000 tonnes of soil have been delivered to the battery site inside the Stanwell Power Station precinct from the nearby National Quarries Stanwell. Yurika and Aurum Contracting have been hard at work, spreading, leveling and compacting the site, which is now primed for the next phase—pouring the concrete slabs and laying the foundations for our battery storage units. 🏗️ Stanwell BESS is the largest committed battery project in Queensland and is pivotal to Stanwell’s energy transformation journey. Once operational in 2027, we’ll be able store up to 300 MW of clean, renewable energy and discharge it back into the grid for up to four hours when Queensland needs it – anytime, day or night. Curious to learn more about our battery projects and their impact on the energy sector? Check out the details here https://bit.ly/3YKPHVj

  • Building the skills we’ll need for our clean energy future starts early. That’s why we’ve teamed up with CQUniversity and ACCIONA AU & NZ to create online micro-credential programs for secondary school students. These programs, developed throughout 2023/24, are designed to equip students with the STEM skills they’ll need to thrive in the emerging hydrogen industry. By fostering strong industry-school connections, we’re not just preparing students for the workforce – we’re ensuring that our communities and future generations are ready to benefit from Queensland’s clean energy future. Together, we’re fuelling a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/g-YmwAwZ
