  • Fair to say there's a bit of excitement building around the TRAnsverse tug capabilities. The first TRAnsverse - Svitzer Taurus - is in operations in Amsterdam, and the Port of Newcastle will see the second and third TRAnsverse tugs arrive in 2025. The Svitzer X Robert Allan Ltd. TRAnsverse tug design provides a significant leap forward in towage capabilities which we are excited to share more on soon, so watch this space. In the meantime, we have a world-class simulator and maritime training facility helping ready our team for their arrival, as you can see by our Training Superintendent, Ben Holder's video below! #TRAnsverseTug #FutureofTowage

Our team is committed to sharing their knowledge and passion for the marine industry with the next generation - so, a big thank you to our local Bunbury team for the patience and support for Chase’s work experience. It’s a testament to their community spirit and willingness to share their passion and knowledge and showcasing the rewarding maritime career opportunities available We are looking forward to seeing young talents like Chase as they explore exciting maritime careers in the future! 🌟🛥️⚓ #WorkExperience #FutureMariners

  • These are some special feet, which along with colleagues from across Australia, have helped walk their way to raising more than $2100 for Men’s Health. Advocating for men’s health is a cause close to many of our team’s hearts, and the initiative was an idea born out of our West team in Fremantle who are particularly passionate about raising awareness and encouraging healthy habits. The maritime industry is predominantly male, and men will die on average 4.5 years earlier than women and for reasons that are largely preventable - so it's important to many of our colleagues that we ensure we take steps to support and raise awareness around how to stay mentally and physically healthy. The team created a Movember X Tugboat inspired design and raised funds by selling the socks among colleagues. A great idea for a great cause, and please use this post to take a moment on how you can take steps to improve your health and the health of the men in your lives: 1. Stay connected: Spend time with people who make you feel good 2. Talk, more. Being there for someone, listening and giving your time can be life-saving 3. Know the numbers. At 50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer and whether it’s right for you to have a PSA test. 4. Know the nuts. Simple. Get to know what’s normal for your testicles. 5. More, more. Add more activity to your day and do more of what makes you feel good (source: Movember)

For the Steen family, maritime isn’t just a job, it’s a proud family tradition. Sharnie, Brad (Deckhand, Svitzer Australia), Graisea and Kailee are each charting their own unique careers in the industry, following in the footsteps of their father Brendan (Port Officer, Port Authority of New South Wales), their uncles, grandfather and great-grandfather. Sharnie joined sisters Graisea (Junior Receptionist) and Kailee (Vessel Scheduler) at Port of Newcastle this year as a Receptionist and Administration Assistant. She says it’s been a rewarding experience to work alongside family. “Growing up, dad and our uncles were always so proud of the industry and of the roles they played. I have a background in education, but I knew I wanted to one day to join the family legacy. Working at Port of Newcastle, it’s so rewarding to know the contribution the Port makes to not just our community, but the region and the nation.” Graisea says she is excited for the opportunities the maritime industry provides. “When I first started at Port of Newcastle, I didn’t really know just how many different jobs there were. The Maritime industry isn’t limited to being on the water; there are so many different opportunities, so I would really encourage other young people to give it a go.” #maritime #careers #family #portofnewcastle #shipping #newcastle
