Youth grants available: The Lions Club of Richmond Youth Development and Engagement Grant round is now accepting applications for term 4. Public schools or organisations working with children and young people in the Cities of Marion, Charles Sturt and West Torrens are invited to apply. The Lions Club of Richmond partners with The Wyatt Trust to distribute the proceeds of their fundraising to support local children and young people. Grants are usually between $1000 - $5000. For larger projects, a higher contribution may be possible if grant funds are available. ⏰ Applications close Friday 22 November, 2024. Applications are assessed as they are submitted, so if you have a project benefitting children and young people we'd love to hear from you! Imagine a future in which we didn’t need Anti-Poverty Week (13-19 Oct). A future where every South Australian was free from poverty and had secure housing and the resources they needed to live happy and fulfilled lives. While the experience of poverty has changed over the years, the need for assistance has not. In fact, we’re hearing from our grant partners that the need for support is growing significantly. Poverty is complex and though our resources are insufficient to eradicate poverty in SA, Wyatt’s Direct Grants program is one of the ways we work to relieve financial pressure and stress associated with a financial or housing need. In partnership with holistic, client-centred services, a modest grant can provide the space needed for a person to look beyond an immediate challenge, and increases opportunity to address other, often more complex issues. Between Jan-Jun 2024, more than 50 per cent of applications for Wyatt’s Direct Grants program were for household goods and furniture, often as a result of individuals moving from emergency housing to community, public or private housing. Holding onto hope: Some of the families Andrew Stuart's team at Neami National work with have fled violent homes and are now stuck in emergency accommodation. “Some of these families have been in very basic motel accommodation for over six months," he explains. "These are families with school aged children who have a microwave and a kettle in the room and that’s it. They’re washing clothes in bathtubs and showers. “Unfortunately, this is part of the reason why there is a high rate of people returning home because it gets to the point where going back to the place where the perpetrator is seems a better option than ongoing emergency accommodation.” Read how Neami’s Women’s Safety and Crisis Services (Safe and Secure Housing) is helping 150 families each year: https://lnkd.in/gbWUTmUd

Our September newsletter includes some great reads about lived and living experience, truth telling, what we learned at the Philanthropy Australia conference, a profile piece about Neami National and a story from our friends at Foundation SA about a new fund established by former Wyatt CEO, Elisabeth Gazard. 📢 Join us on the (virtual) couch to chat with The Wyatt Trust about their exciting new Catalytic Local Investment Fund! The Wyatt Trust recently announced the Catalytic Local Investment Fund, an innovative new initiative that will invest in local business enterprises that are doing good for both people and planet. What is unique about the Fund is that it is structure agnostic, meaning the organisation requiring investment could be a standard business, social enterprise or not-for-profit. This is an exciting opportunity for South Australian social enterprises, small businesses and indigenous businesses with a strong social/environmental impact focus. The Business for Good team invite you to join us for a special On the Couch session with Stacey Thomas (CEO) and Gavin Reid (Investment Specialist) from The Wyatt Trust who will share more information about the Fund including their priority focus areas, funding available, eligibility, application processes and more. Tuesday 3rd September 2024, 10:30am-11:30am ACDT. This is a free online event for South Australian social enterprises and small businesses/Indigenous businesses with a strong social or environmental focus but places are limited and registrations are essential to receive the Zoom link. Yesterday our CEO Stacey Thomas delivered a powerful account of truth telling at Wyatt to a packed house of 1,000 delegates at the Philanthropy Australia conference here in Adelaide. We are humbled and uplifted by the overwhelming response from our peers and have published Stacey's speech on our website for anyone who wasn't in the room. Thank you to everyone who's reached out - we hope our example inspires others to begin a truth telling process of their own. #truthtelling #philanthropy https://lnkd.in/d3UmCmQf

A special thank you to our lived and living experience colleagues and sector partners who took part in the development of the Linker Network – an initiative that has been co-designed with the people it aims to help. It’s been a 2-year journey for The Wyatt Trust which has culminated in co-design, testing and evaluating solutions to positively impact poverty in South Australia with the potential of bringing about systemic change. At last month’s Linker Network conference, more than 120 people shared reflections, stories, laughter and occasional tears, particularly when we heard from lived and living experience colleagues who shared comments like this one: “Just being asked, ‘What do you need?’ – how wonderful is that?” #philanthropy #codesign #livedexperience #systemschange https://lnkd.in/gRKrGnD9

This NAIDOC week has been full of celebration and we have been honoured by the opportunity to share so many moments with friends and colleagues. The Wyatt team also had the privilege of listening and learning from Uncle Ivan as we spent a day reflecting upon and exploring ways to deepen our involvement with, and commitment to, First Nations peoples and communities. Witnessing the excellence and achievements that have been on display this week, and are there every day if you choose to see, has been a joy. #keepthefireburning #NAIDOCWeek
