We’re extremely proud to partner with producers such as Rob and Anna Mulligan, another family business located in Walcha, New South Wales. Andrew Jackson, our Livestock Buyer who looks after the New England region, works closely with the Mulligan’s on procuring lamb which ultimately help us to supply customers such as ALDI Stores Australia. The Mulligan’s are second generation farmers on their property ‘Salway,’ and invest heavily in innovation and technology to ensure sustainability and best-practice animal welfare. When reflecting on the expansion into processing in the early days, Darren said "my father and I have never been too embarrassed to ask questions... we'd just learn and you know, you'd be there 4 in the morning to midnight at night trying to understand it, trying to always be better..." Over the weekend, Jonathan Bayes, TFI Group General Manager Sales and Marketing and Joe Szakacs, South Australian Minister for Trade and Investment, held a media conference at our Thomas Farms Norwood store to discuss the significant increase in South Australian beef being exported to the US over the past year. A large contributor to this is stage one of our Murray Bridge Processing Facility now being fully commissioned and processing 3,000 head of cattle a week. Paired with the growing demand for high quality and claims-based beef products that South Australia is renowned for, this has resulted in an almost-four-fold increase in South Australian beef being exported to the US. “South Australia’s beef industry is a vital contributor to our state’s economic growth and is fundamental in the economic activity of our regions…We’ll continue to work closely with the industry to assist them with their efforts to attain access to new markets to further diversify,” said Mr Szacacks. It is an ongoing focus for TFI to achieve and retain competitive market access, allowing us to deliver the best returns and sustainable long-term outcomes for not only beef producers, but also lamb. The ongoing support of both the state and federal government is critical for success, with the future for Australian red meat looking optimistic. The brands and range of products TFI export to the US and other markets is also proudly available through our domestic business or for consumers at our butcher stores.

We are proud to partner with Cancer Council SA as the Major State Sponsor for Daffodil Day 2024. With 1 in 2 people being affected by cancer in their lifetime, we will all be impacted by this heartbreaking disease. Darren Thomas, Managing Director of TFI said: “We know the terrific impact Cancer Council SA has and are immensely proud to partner for Daffodil Day this year. TFI considers it a privilege to give back to the community and we know that cancer is something that affects not only our staff, but all of our stakeholders indiscriminately. We encourage everyone to buy a bunch of daffodils or make a donation, all in the name of cancer research and supporting future breakthroughs.” The Cancer Council SA supports a wide range of work from prevention and research to support and advocacy. All of this is incredibly important, and there is one area of support in particular that means a lot to us as a business that has a longstanding history in, and continued reliance on rural and regional Australia. Greenhill Lodge Accommodation features 120 rooms of supportive accommodation, dedicated to regional cancer patients and their carers. This creates a home-away-from-home while they access cancer treatment and cancer related appointments in the Adelaide area. This accommodation can provide a great source of relief for families and one less thing to worry about. For this service, we are eternally grateful. Our team are working together with Cancer Council SA to sell beautiful and fresh daffodils and merchandise at Gawler Place, Rundle Mall. We are incredibly proud of the efforts that our Managing Director, Darren Thomas, made last year by not only participating in Dry July, but by fundraising over $40,000 in the process! "Drinking is often at the core of many social and work engagements – especially in the agriculture / meat industry. To succeed at Dry July, I really thought I would have to embrace being the ‘odd one out’ and fielding questions or funny looks. Instead, I found it a great opportunity to educate people on the cause and I was pleasantly surprised about how much of a non-issue it was. When people found out I was doing Dry July, I was taken back to receive some heart felt messages of thanks from people who had been impacted by cancer. They were eager to let me know what a great help the Cancer Council had been to them which really put my fundraising efforts into perspective. It was humbling to have such a positive reaction and feel like I was helping to make an impact – the donations really do help" said Darren. The funds raised for Dry July provide invaluable services for cancer patients, their families and carers – whether it’s a lift to a life-saving appointment, guidance from a specialist nurse, connection to an informative voice, access to therapy programs or a bed close to treatment. As many South Aussies come to the end of their own Dry July, Darren shares how, a year on, Dry July has had a far greater impact on his life than he ever would have expected. "I realised drinking alcohol was more of a habit and something I did without even thinking about it. When I really asked myself if I wanted alcohol or why, I often didn’t have a very good reason." "I have essentially stopped drinking and have never felt so physically and mentally clear. Leading such a busy and demanding life, I really took for granted the toll alcohol was having on me. We are excited and counting down for the Olympics here at TFI. Not only are we supplying beef and lamb to fuel the Aussie swim team, but one of our own will be heading to Paris! We couldn’t be prouder of Elie Enock. Elie has overcome a number of obstacles and challenges in life, any one of which would cause most people to buckle. One particularly defining challenge was a car accident that happened in the very early hours of 12 July 2009 while she was out celebrating her birthday. That accident took her leg and almost took her life. “After my accident, I thought this was the end of my life.” A chance encounter with Rainbow Disability Theatre changed that for Elie, encouraging her out of the house and starting her on a pathway to become a disability advocate, actor and soon, an Olympian. Her outlook on life is now “to not limit your challenge, but challenge your limits.” Elie is one of 40 employees from Vanuatu at TFI Stawell, hired through the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme. Elie has made great sacrifices to join our team and provide a better life for her family, including being away from her 10-year-old son. Elie thought she was also going to have to sacrifice sport when she came to Australia. Instead, Stawell Operations Manager Shane Wittmann, fully supported by TFI, has done everything possible to help Elie achieve her dream of representing Vanuatu at the Olympics. We have built a frame and training arena onsite for Elie, as well as arranging a gym membership, coaching and an endless supply of encouragement. Shane is also sending himself to Paris to support Elie. Growing up, Elie was not into sport. It is only because of her accident and the proactive Vanuatu Paralympic Committee that she got involved back in 2014. Elie specifically got into athletics in 2016, participating in her first ever competition in 2017 at the Pacific Mini-Games. Since then, Elie has been collecting medals and embracing the opportunities athletics has presented her. She has now travelled to train or compete in Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Dubai, Fiji, England and soon, Paris. Elie has always been backed by a loving and supportive family. We are proud that TFI are now a part of that. To top it all off? Elie found out last week she will be the flag bearer for Vanuatu at the Opening Ceremony for the Paralympics and will be the first female athlete to represent Vanuatu. Best of luck, Elie! 🇻🇺 👏

DTI had the pleasure of hosting 13 delegates representing four Japanese companies in South Australia last month. The representatives visited our state as guests of Thomas Foods International, who provided the opportunity for DTI to host the delegation for a day to showcase of South Australia's strengths and capabilities in a range of products. The delegation enjoyed a tour of Thomas Farms' butcher store in Norwood, KIN in Burnside, and Foodland Frewville supermarket, followed by a showcase lunch at the stunning Angove Family Winemakers cellar door restaurant in McLaren Vale.
