Attending today’s Sustainability Summit by Architecture & Design (Australia), there was plenty of enthusiasm and interest in progressing our industry forward. Highlights were: • the case study on the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre in Wollongong. Designed by Cox Architecture, it is Australia’s first Living Building Challenge accredited project, and • the Evolution and Adaptation of Green Roofs with Australia’s urban greening royalty, Fraser Torpy and Dr Peter Irga from UTS and from the University of Melbourne, John Rayner, along with sustainable architect Carol Marra from Marra + Yeh Architects, who Tilt collaborated with on the Sky House in Redfern. Grateful for the conversations on how we can collectively create a more sustainable future. #sustainability #livingbuildingchallenge #architectureanddesign #builtenvironmentmadeexceptional

Burnt Earth Beach House features Tilt-designed bespoke awnings that instantly transform the indoors into outdoors while maximising shade and airflow. And congratulations to Bates Smart on receiving the international award win for The Embassy of Australia in Washington, D.C. The embassy features artwork by renowned Australian artist Abdullah M.I. Syed. Tilt worked with Abdullah on his ‘Woven Cascade’ tapestry, representing the interconnected relationship between Australia and the United States. Congratulations to all the winners! Modern public artwork, like 'Gabrugal Yana', is not just visually appealing. It has the power to evoke deep emotions and foster a strong connection to place and community. Gabrugal Yana is as authentic as it is visually captivating. The success of this project was hinged on early consultation and collaboration, delivering an educational opportunity, a cultural legacy and storyboard that connects us to nature and Dharug narratives. Read more from artist, Shay Tobin about how collaboration shaped the vision of Gabrugal Yana. https://lnkd.in/gA3__n3c Gabrugal Yana | Dharug | 2023 Western Sydney Parklands Photography: @westernsydneyparklands @tiltindustrialdesign #community #collaboration #publicart #indigenousart #firstnationsart Greater Sydney Parklands #westernsydneyparklands Shay Tobin Djon Mundine OAM #industrialdesign Susan Milne Australian Bronze Pty Ltd BALARINJI #builtenvironmentmadeexceptional

Day 1 / City Canvas Symposium - Public Art, Urban Play and Creative Sports: An interesting conversation today about the 'urban exclusion problem' in our cities. Development and planning have failed to capture and cater to the needs of our youth and young adults, often resulting in them being marginalised and relegated to outlying skate parks for social interaction. Our public spaces are developed for 'adultification', with bland features that de-risk public assets and make them irrelevant to young people. If we flip our thinking, public spaces and assets can serve multiple purposes to benefit our whole society. A public artwork can increase liveability and cultural identity, but if it's also a skatable asset, then instantly, it becomes more relevant to broader part of our community. By integrating active infrastructure into the fabric of our cities, we can foster true inclusivity and create more connected communities. Thanks for the insights Sanné Mestrom Felicity Fenner Indigo Willing Nadia Odlum and thank you to Aunty Ding for the very special Welcome to Country #artplayrisk #publicart #publicdomain #urbanplanning #liveability #inclusivity #industrialdesign

It’s not often we get the chance to work in one of the world’s most iconic buildings. With its aspect to Sydney Harbour, the views from Bennelong restaurant are breathtaking, but also very exposed to direct sunlight. Tilt was tasked with creating bespoke sunshades to improve the dining experience and increase thermal comfort. Due to the building's heritage significance, permanent fixings or holes could not be used to attach the blinds. We turned this design challenge into innovation with our bespoke clamping bracket system. This solution provided structural integrity and enabled the blinds to quickly adapt to the changing sunlight throughout the day.
