The first End-of-Year Networking Event in Barbados was hosted on 9th December 2024 by the UN Global Compact Network Caribbean, in collaboration with the United Nations Barbados and OECS, Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA) This event marked a significant occasion bringing together UN Global Compact participants based in Barbados, key prospects, and business associations such as BCCI and BIBIA. This collaborative event served as an important platform for stakeholders in Barbados to engage in a meaningful networking opportunity, and also highlighted the role of sustainability partners in supporting efforts to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the Caribbean context. The Networking Event provided an invaluable opportunity for participants to share best practices, explore new partnerships, and commit to a more sustainable future for businesses and communities in the region. #sustainability #networking #UNSDGs Simon Springett Tia Browne Carmel Haynes Misha Lobban Clarke Connie Smith Leisa Perch Caroline Belgrave

We are thrilled to highlight Leisa Perch for her contribution to supporting UNDP on the Gendered Components of the design phase of the SMARTER Project. Her expertise also included the development of Environmental and Social Safeguards Analysis and Plan. It's exciting to see this work progressing to the implementation stage, where it will serve as a key tool in strengthening Barbados' climate resilience. This project stands as an excellent example of how gender-responsive approaches can support and enable sustainable, impactful change including in areas such as energy. Looking forward to the positive outcomes it will bring! https://lnkd.in/eNwf5986

On this #InternationalHumanRightsDay, we at SAEDI Consulting (Barbados) reflect on the ongoing challenges of inequality and human rights violations around the world. From gender-based violence and economic exclusion to climate impacts on marginalised communities, the fight for dignity, freedom, and equality remains essential. At SAEDI, we follow the principles outlined in the United Nations Human Rights Charter, especially Articles 1, 2, and 3, which emphasise that all people are born equal in dignity and rights and are entitled to these rights without discrimination and that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security. We also recognise that human rights encompass social and environmental rights, which are critical to ensuring justice and equity for all. Through our gendered and social analyses, we work to address these inequalities, ensuring human rights are central to every solution we design. Whether advocating for gender-responsive climate action or empowering marginalised communities, we focus on removing barriers and creating pathways for inclusive development. As we close this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, SAEDI Consulting (Barbados) remains committed to continuing this work year-round. To all victims and survivors of GBV, we stand with you. Your strength is a powerful reminder of the fight for justice, healing, and empowerment. You are not alone, and your voices matter. We will continue to work toward a world where safety, respect, and human rights are upheld for all. Human rights are a call to action. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing justice, equity, and dignity for all.🌍✊ #InternationalHumanRightsDay #HumanRightsDay #EqualityForAll #SocialJustice #GenderAnalysis #HumanRightsInAction #VoicesForTheClimate #16DaysOfActivism #BridgeTheGap #GenderEquality #GBVInTheClimateCrisis #VoicesAgainstViolence #HandsAgainstHarm #CaribbeanWomen #GBV #SEAH #GenderJustice

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The UN estimates that women with disabilities are 2 times more likely to experience Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment than the general population of women. Persons with disabilities (PWDs), particularly women and girls, face heightened risks of violence, discrimination, and exclusion. SAEDI Consulting is committed to breaking barriers, be it physical, social, or systemic to ensure that PWDs are included at all levels of decision-making. Why are the voices of PWDs needed in the fight for Gender Equality? From our work with vulnerable marginalized groups, we recognize the role that intersectionality plays across all sectors and spaces. This 16 Days of Activism, we advocate that: 💡 Persons with Disabilities can be victims of SEAH, GBV, Domestic Violence, and Intimate Partner Violence too 💡 Persons with Disabilities can be more vulnerable to forms of SEAH and GBV. As much as 70% of girls with intellectual disabilities will experience SEAH before the age of 18. For women with communication and cognitive disabilities, their inability to say no or lack of understanding of sexual assault can be misperceived as consent. 💡 In some cases, the physical violence and trauma associated with SEAH, DV, and GBV can be linked to temporary and permanent, physical and psychological, and visible and invisible disabilities. In projects like our Caribbean Disaster Recovery Course with CDEMA and our Gender Assessment on Early Warning Systems in the Maldives, understanding the unique needs that PWDs face at the intersections of climate crises and conflict & displacement highlights the importance of inclusive solutions. Beyond sensitization, policy reform, and capacity building, more is needed to support PWDs. Inclusive accessible Support Services, Grievance Redress Mechanisms, Disaggregated Data, and innovative tools that account for communication and accessibility challenges are critical for creating a world free from GBV. #VoicesForTheClimate #HerIslandHerRights #16DaysOfActivism #BridgeTheGap #GenderEquality #GoodHealthAndWellBeing #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #DisabilityRightsAreHumanRights

1 in 2 women in the Caribbean face Gender-Based Violence (GBV)—a crisis worsened by the rise in Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (SEAH) during natural disasters. For SAEDI's Pre- and Post-Disaster Gendered Analysis, the risks for women are undeniable. In Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, sexual assault cases surged to 10,813 in just six weeks, a chilling reminder of how disasters expose and amplify systemic inequalities. Displacement forces women and girls into sometimes overcrowded shelters with little to no security. At the same time, the lack of resources like food, water, and medical care puts them at greater risk of exploitation. The chaos of disaster recovery often enables perpetrators, with women frequently coerced into survival sex in exchange for basic necessities. These conditions, rooted in power imbalances, perpetuate cycles of SEAH in some of the most vulnerable settings. 🛑 Now is the time to act. We must implement secure, gender-responsive disaster policies that protect women and girls, conduct gender sensitization training for disaster management officials and security personnel, and ensure access to safe shelters, essential resources, and survivor-centred support systems. By addressing the root causes of GBV and SEAH, we can break the cycle of violence and build a Caribbean where every woman is safe, valued, and empowered. Together, we can drive change and foster lasting resilience. #VoicesAgainstViolence #HandsAgainstHarm #CaribbeanWomen #GBV #SEAH #GenderJustice #16DaysOfActivism

Farms should grow hope and abundance, not fear nor silence. At SAEDI Consulting, we understand that gender-based violence and exploitation in agriculture are not isolated incidents—they stem from structural systems of oppression that heighten vulnerabilities for women and marginalized groups including persons with disabilities and indigenous peoples. The climate crisis intensifies these struggles, as extreme weather, crop failures, and resource scarcity create conditions where the least protected bear the greatest burden. True change demands action beyond the surface. By implementing gender-responsive agricultural policies, establishing stronger grievance mechanisms, adopting climate-resilient strategies, and fostering community-driven efforts to challenge harmful norms, we can transform farms into secure spaces of growth, equality, and resilience. #VoicesForTheClimate #HerIslandHerRights #GBVInTheClimateCrisis #GenderResponsiveSafeguards #BreakTheCycleOfViolence #voicesfortheclimatehandsagainstharm 🎨@RB

Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, SAEDI Consulting (Barbados) Inc. is proud to commemorate the start of our 16 Days of Activism campaign, Voices for the Climate, Hands Against Harm, focusing on the theme of Her Island, Her Rights: Advancing Justice in a Changing Caribbean, as we demand action and amplify voices against gender-based injustices. According to the UN, every 10 minutes, a woman is killed because of gender-based violence. Violence against women and girls is a global human rights crisis. Through our work, we continue to advocate for the diverse and vulnerable groups in our society. Women and girls are especially vulnerable, and even more so during disasters that exacerbate instability, conflict, and the risk of GBV, SEAH, and IPV. GBV takes many forms beyond domestic violence. It also exists as structural violence through policies that are gender blind and unjust to women, or as spillovers from the household into the activities of environmental projects. We recently worked on a course with CDEMA focused on Gender Responsive Recovery in the Caribbean. Our extensive research and interviews highlighted the critical need for governments, NGOs, and local communities to work collectively and inclusively to address GBV. This includes disaggregated data collection, sensitization and education, establishing safe zones, and implementing grievance redress mechanisms that are safe and support victims. Injustice knows no boundaries- It survives and thrives in diverse environments, from homes to workplaces, and online spaces to vulnerable communities physically affected by conflict and crises. Ending violence against women requires accountability, increased resources, and unwavering support for women’s rights movements. #EqualityCantWait! #VoicesForTheClimate #HerIslandHerRights #NoExcuse #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #16DaysOfActivism #BridgeTheGap #GenderEquality #GoodHealthAndWellBeing #PeaceJusticeAndStrongInstitutions #InternationalDayForTheEliminationOfViolenceAgainstWomen
