Similarly, Abebe Hailu, Head of our DIGITS Department, recently visited the GIZ Serbia office in Belgrade. He gained valuable insights into how our colleagues implement digitalisation internally as well as externally in their day-to-day operations. Both visits highlight a shared commitment across GIZ to embrace innovation, foster collaboration, and continuously evolve in our journey towards a smarter, digital future.

Building Capacity on Sustainable Cooling Solutions In a world facing the dual challenges of climate change and escalating energy demands, #SustainableCoolingSolutions are no longer optional but essential. Natural refrigerants like R-290, with no impact on the ozone layer and near-zero global warming potential, hold the key to transforming the cooling industry while protecting our planet. Under the Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) III project, two batches of training for the air-conditioning technicians were successfully organised last month at BKTTC-Dhaka to promote green cooling solutions. Forty-one technicians from the local manufacturers and technical centres learnt techniques to safely install and service ACs using R-290 refrigerants. One highlight was the participation of 8 enthusiastic female trainees, showing the growing inclusivity and interest of women in the #RAC sector. The training was graced by esteemed guests, the DG from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET), who shared his valuable insights on the importance of natural refrigerants during the closing ceremonies while an Additional Secretary from the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment inaugurated the events. 🤝German development cooperation delegates meet the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Bangladesh 👌Judges should prioritize case management to ease the huge case backlog in their courts as they are the administrator, manager, educator and innovator on top of their judicial duties, observed Mr Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. He made the observation while interacting with the delegation from the German development cooperation led by Mr Ulrich Kleppmann, Consular and Deputy Head of Development Cooperation, German Embassy, Dhaka. Ms. Martina Burkard, Coordinator, Governance Cluster, GIZ Bangladesh, who was part of the delegation, mentioned that the “Access to Justice for Women: Strengthening Community Dispute Resolution and Improving Case Management (A2J)” project aims to strengthen access to justice for the poor and vulnerable through improvement of legal aid, gender-based dispute resolution and effective case management. Mr Syed Ziaul Hasan, Senior Advisor, A2J, flagged a few pertinent issues in the meeting: courts are swamped with cases, mass people want to resolve their disputes at the community level, and 41% women do not know where to go for legal aid. The Chief Justice thought effective coordination could tackle the case backlog issue to a certain extent. “Judicial Conference” led by the learned District and Session Judges may play a pivotal role here by ensuring coordination between the relevant actors in the criminal justice system. Supreme Court Monitoring Committee for Sub-Ordinate Judiciary may then table the policy recommendations based on the evidence generated by the “Judicial Conference. The meeting offered an opportunity to potential support on issues that would contribute to the current judicial reform initiative. ✍ A2J project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union. Facts instead of hate speech: working together against disinformation Informed opinion-forming is the foundation of any functioning democracy. But disinformation and hate speech threaten freedom of expression and social stability worldwide. We are working with partners in numerous countries to address these challenges with innovative solutions and commitment on the ground. For example: 🌐 An interactive online training course that helps civil society, journalists and human rights defenders to recognise misinformation and to check facts.
