🌍 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 🌱 At the recent 𝙄𝘾𝘼 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘿𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙪𝙢 𝙞𝙣 𝙕𝙖𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙗, we, the 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙀𝙪𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨, issued a communiqué to the European Commission reaffirming our commitment to a sustainable future for European agrifood systems. Facing challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and societal divides, we are taking decisive action: ✅ 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲'𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗨 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 recommendations for agrifood system reform, including CAP changes and promoting sustainable diets. ✅ 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴-𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 to drive breakthroughs in sustainable agrifood practices. ✅ 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 through comprehensive education and training programs. ✅ 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 to bridge the gap between scientific insights and practical applications. As ICA President Maria Wedel stated: "𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘢 𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯—𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱, 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥-𝘰𝘯". 📢 Reflections from Brussels: Advancing Bioeconomy Education Together! Today, the ICA and ICA Education Committee on Bioeconomy education had the privilege of participating in the “Bioeconomy Education Workshop” organized by the European Commission Directorate General for Research and Innovation 🌍 Held at the heart of Europe in Brussels, this inspiring event brought together stakeholders and visionaries to discuss “building the next generation of skills” needed to accelerate the transition to a “competitive, regenerative, and fair bioeconomy”. The workshop tackled key questions critical to bioeconomy education, including: 🔹 The role of “higher education” in fostering bioeconomy in society 🔹 Innovative approaches to “vocational and educational training” 🔹 Empowering “youth” as active participants in bioeconomy development Our highlights from the day: ✔️ Inspirational pitches from leaders in bioeconomy education, including Iris Lewandowski, European Bioeconomy Alliance and Han van Osch, Avans University of Applied Sciences and ICA-COP. ✔️ Engaging breakout group discussions exploring innovative solutions to upskill the bioeconomy workforce. ✔️ A strong emphasis on youth voices and their vision for the future, presented by dynamic ambassadors like Johann Liebeton and Nicholas Ferrini. We are thrilled to see the European Commission prioritizing bioeconomy education through such collaborative and impactful initiatives. A huge thanks to all the organizers and speakers for facilitating a platform to share insights, foster collaboration, and drive meaningful action in the bioeconomy sector.
