I am really happy to share with you the first deliverable of my BlockStand.eu project regarding DAO Standarization! This report presents a comparative analysis of 14 existing legal frameworks for DAOs across 12 jurisdictions. By examining these regions’ regulatory landscapes, we assess how each jurisdiction approaches the formation, governance, liability, and compliance of DAOs, identifying both commonalities and differences. This analysis highlights the strengths and weaknesses of current legal structures, providing insights that may inform harmonized standards and best practices on a global scale. This document was prepared by me with expert contributions of Professor María del Sagrario Navarro Lérida from Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, and the review of Izabela Kuprasz, Director of Legal at Web3 Foundation and Tonia Damvakeraki, Marie Curie Research Fellowship in DAOs on Metaverse at University of Nicosia and Founder of Hareva. It was my honour to moderate the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) Belgium Demystifying Seminar, an event co-organized by Access Advisors EU and Howest Cyber3Lab and funded by the EBSI-NE project. Together with a fantastic lineup of speakers, we explored how blockchain is transforming public services across Europe and discussed what’s next for #EBSI and #EDIC-Europeum. Here’s what stood out from the day: • Mathieu MICHEL, #Belgium’s Secretary of State for Digitalisation, shared his vision for EBSI and the political leadership that brought EDIC-Europeum to life, underlining the importance of trust and collaboration for scaling blockchain. •Piotr Rutkowski, Vice-Chair of #EDIC, emphasized EDIC’s potential to ensure EBSI becomes a practical tool for delivering better public services in all Member States. •Pierre Marro, Policy Officer at the European Commission, outlined EBSI’s roadmap and highlighted how the governance shift to EDIC-Europeum will empower Member States to take ownership and drive adoption. • Jonas Žalinkevičius presented the technical strides made under EBSI-NE, including the addition of 18 new blockchain nodes. He explained how this expansion strengthens EBSI’s security and aligns with key frameworks like #eIDAS2. •Daniël Du Seuil and Robby Goetinck, from Howest Cyber3Lab, brought blockchain to life with a demo of student IDs issued as #verifiablecredentials. Their work showcases the real-world potential of Self-Sovereign #digital #Identity in simplifying everyday processes. •Steffen Schwalm, from the TRACE4EU Consortium illustrated how blockchain can solve real problems in traceability, from seafood supply chains to copyright protection. His examples demonstrated how EBSI can deliver trust in complex regulatory environments. •Evrim Tan, Strategy Lead for EBSI-VECTOR project, tackled governance challenges, focusing on how Member States can align and build #trust to bridge the gap between pilots and scalable solutions. •Ricardo Simoes, Executive Director of INATBA - International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications, emphasized the critical role of public-private collaboration in standardizing #blockchain technologies and ensuring #EBSI becomes a trust anchor for Europe.
