Enabling researchers to set up their own interdisciplinary research networks. Funded by the European Union.
About us
The COST Association is a not-for-profit international association under Belgian law. It is in charge of funding, organising, managing and promoting COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) activities. COST is an EU-funded programme that enables researchers to set up their interdisciplinary research networks known as COST Actions. We provide funds for organising conferences, meetings, training schools, short scientific exchanges or other networking activities in a wide range of scientific topics. By creating open spaces where people and ideas can grow, we unlock the full potential of science.

What does it take to design new quantum materials? What potential and impact does quantum coherence and superconductors offer? How do research networks contribute to facilitate these technological breakthroughs? We look back at the impact of the NANOCOHYBRI network with it's Chair Hermann Suderow: a diverse and inclusive community of physicists, engineers, chemists, and material scientists with strong involvement of ITC countries, science communication efforts, and follow on networks through SUPERQUMAP. Correlated multimodal imaging (CMI) combines imaging techniques to gather multidimensional information on cells, tissues and diseases. With huge potential, surprisingly no interdisciplinary network existed.... until COMULIS arrived. Today we catch up with Andreas Walter to learn what can happen when researchers adopt an interdisciplinary approach to advancing life sciences. The COMULIS COST Action, and it's follow up CIG grant Faites Vos Jeux!, aimed to get clinicians talking to imaging scientists, cell biologists, and structural biologists to really break down barriers in the field. With follow up funding from the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative the network is still alive and kicking.
