We must keep society on board with all the changes. 🟢 Innovation is critical - for ensuring the competitiveness of our road transport systems and industry. 🟢 Collaboration is key - exchange facilitated by EU projects is helping to reshape road transport for a better future – a cleaner environment, more inclusive mobility, and safer roads. 🟢Communication is crucial - now more than ever we need to show the positive impact about what we are doing and of how EU investment in R&I is contributing to resolving the big challenges we face. Great to be part of #RTR2025! Our coordinator Claudio Roncoli presented the latest progress and insights from ACUMEN during session 21 "Multimodal Traffic Management for Door-to-Door Passenger and Freight" moderated by Thiago Tavares and Paraskevi (Vivi) Michalaki. The session emphasised the need to make the best use of data and AI tools, with paying particular attention to what they can and can't do. Such conferences are important not only to showcase projects, but also to gain a broader perspective on multimodal transport management. Engaging with stakeholders allows us to exchange ideas, identify synergies and incorporate lessons learned from other projects into our work. The opening session kicked off with insightful discussions on the transformation of road transport, featuring key speakers including: 🎤 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 (Ricardo, ERTRAC Vice-Chairman and RTR Conference Chair) 🎤 Rosalinde van der Vlies (DG RTD) 🎤 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗸 𝘃𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗸𝗮 (DG MOVE) 🎤 Pablo PEREZ-ILLANA (CINEA) 🎤 Christian Merkt (BMW, CCAM) 🎤 Michael Lippert (Saft, BEPA and Batteries Europe) 🎤 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘂𝗲𝗿 (BMW, ERTRAC and EGVIAfor2Zero) 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆: 🚀𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The European Commission highlighted the Competitiveness, Affordability, Circularity and Inclusiveness (CACI) framework, reinforcing the need to align research efforts with economic and sustainability goals. 🔖𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀: DG MOVE highlighted the importance of moving from research to deployment, including scaling up EV charging infrastructure and supporting cross-border zero-emissions corridors. 🔋𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀: With 60% of battery production linked to transport, innovation in battery materials, production and integration is crucial for decarbonising the sector. 📡 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The need for investment in digital and automated solutions for transport was reiterated, with a focus on CCAM leadership, multimodal transport and skills development. ALICE’s work in 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 (DISCO Project, URBANE Project), 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 transport networks 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (ReMuNet Project, SARIL Project), 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 (MODI Project), 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 (STREnGth-M and DELPHI_EU project) and 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼-𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 (ZEFES) aligns with RTR’s focus on digital and sustainable mobility. Sleeves rolled up for #SYNCHROMODE! 🚦 Earlier today, #SYNCHROMODE sat a fruitful session at the Multimodal Traffic Management Cluster workshop with the other projects DELPHI_EU project and ACUMEN Project    All projects presented their use cases along with their technologies progress and their technology readiness levels. And that's a wrap! 🎀 The Multimodal Traffic Management Cluster - ACUMEN Project, SYNCHROMODE Project, DELPHI_EU project, TANGENT Project, FRONTIER EU Project, and Orchestra2020 - came together in an informal setting to explore common challenges, lessons learned, and future research opportunities. 📑 On the agenda: Updates from the European Commission by Tiffany Vlemmings Projects’ use cases description Projects’ technologies/solutions maturity & readiness level Synergies between case studies MTMC roadmap & next steps The workshop highlighted synergies between the project partners, both in terms of technology and implementation. The results and experiments carried out will contribute to improving the implementation of EU policies at local level, while at the same time helping to raise issues on the EU agenda. We look forward to continuing these discussions. ✨
