On September 12th took place the Final Review at the DePuy Synthes facility in Cork, a significant milestone that highlighted the outcomes of this incredible journey. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved—partners, collaborators, and supporters—who contributed to the project’s outstanding results and fostered meaningful interpersonal connections along the way. Your dedication and expertise have been invaluable. A special acknowledgment to MTU for their excellent project coordination, with particular thanks to Alan McGibney and Susan Rea for their exceptional leadership and guidance throughout the project. The DENiM Project has significantly advanced energy-efficient manufacturing systems, providing a strong foundation for future initiatives. It has created a platform for continued innovation and collaboration in this field. The fifth long-form video of “11 shades of AI Act” is now released. It highlights which AI systems enter the limited and minimal risk categories, which are lightly regulated. The AI Act, adopted at EU level after harsh negotiations, was published at the Official Journal in summer. This Regulation is highly complex, while its significance and consequences might rival with those of the GDPR. In essence, it provides a first legal definition of “AI systems” and “General-Purpose AI models” and regulates them based on the level of risk that they generate. Its material provisions contain fairly technical requirements and mix transversal and sectoral regulatory approaches. The Regulation also sets an enforcement framework, with heavy sanctions that can be imposed, and an impressive number of enforcement authorities. DENiM's legal partners (UNamur, CRIDS) decided to delve into this topic head-on. They currently release series of 11 videos (in English, with French subtitles), named “11 shades of AI Act”.  You’ll find the videos on their website: https://lnkd.in/eyZHKVtU They detail the major aspects of the Regulation, in a clear and accessible way. They are destined to lawyers, public authorities, developers of AI solutions, and businesses (SMEs and bigger companies alike) who seek to integrate AI tools within their operations.
