About us
Di-Hydro is a EU-funded project committed to advancing the potential of hydropower plants and clusters in alignment with the ambitious goals of the EU Green Deal and the Paris Agreement. The mission is to revolutionise the way hydropower plants operate, making them smarter, more efficient, and environmentally conscious. Our vision is to empower sustainable energy production by developing practical solutions based on combining innovative sensor technologies, optimized operations & maintenance practices based on cutting-edge information technology, while taking account weather and water flow conditions, biodiversity, environmental and societal issues. Our innovative concept involves introducing a Decision-Making Platform and Digital Twin technology to the hydropower sector. Our primary goal is to address the digital divide among hydropower plants and clusters while enhancing their operational performance and environmental sustainability. The Di-Hydro technologies will be tested in the field in 5 hydropower plants across 3 different EU countries (Greece, Italy, Serbia). Digital Twin for Clusters: Di-Hydro will create a Digital Twin platform for use case hydropower plants, as well as forming a cluster for collaborative energy production, O&M. Advanced Technology: Our approach utilises federated architecture, decentralised storage, AI technologies, and Reinforcement Learning for resilience and robustness. Sensors technologies: Di-Hydro will develop and use novel sensors rigs for monitoring parameters such: - structural health/ condition of infrastructure - environmental/biodiversity - water quality & flow Digital modelling & data Integration: We analyse historical data, implement novel sensors, and integrate AI-based environmental, biodiversity, meteorological, water flow and that will offer real-time data or be used for forecasting and decision making purposes. Several Horizon projects have been funded. Let's follow the ETIP HYDROPOWER webinars! 👉 https://lnkd.in/d7Byzw4k ✅ In the last decade (2012-2021), public spending for R&D on hydropower in the EU ranged between EUR 15 Million and EUR 26 Million per year, with decreasing trends after peaks. The main hubs of public spending are Austria, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Poland and Sweden. The average public R&D investment is EUR 17 Million on annual basis in the EU (2012-2021), slightly higher than the annual public spending in Canada (approximately EUR 12.7 Million annually). ✅ Considering the private R&D investments, in the EU, Germany, France, Italy and Sweden are the member states with the largest contribution. The lead companies are Voith Hydro Patent GMBH (DE), GE Renewable Technologies (FR), MAHLE International GMBH (DE), Aktiebolaget SKF (SE), EDF (FR), DIVE-Turbine Co KG (DE), ANDRITZ Hydro GMBH (AT), Alstom Renewable Technologies (FR), REHART GmbH (DE), Minesto AB (SE). ✅ During the period 2010-2021, 669 patents were registered by companies in the EU. Within the EU, Germany is leading in patenting (227), followed by France (111), Poland (59), Italy (59), Sweden (31) and Austria (28). The EU holds 29% of all high-value inventions globally. Four companies from the EU are in this top-10: Voith Hydro, GE Renewable Technologies (EU branch), Dive Turbinen, Aktiebolaget Skf, Vuo Power Oy.
