💡 #Energy #efficiency and #energy #savings must be at the centre of #EU policy. Taking seriously the #Draghi report, the new #Polish #Presidency aligns with the new Commission big words: #competitiveness, #energytransition, #energyindependence, and #industrialboost. While reinforcing the correlation between climate objectives and energy transition, Poland also highlighted in their priorities the importance of the EU's competitiveness. For the first time in EU legislation, the energy efficiency first principle is legally defined, with energy efficiency measures now a guiding principle in all policies. 🔎 As EPEE, implementing the energy efficiency first principle is key to secure all the above priorities. Our person of the year: the #Heat #Pump 🏆 The Times' cover got us thinking... What is one thing we haven't stopped talking about this year? 👉 Heat pumps. Let's take a look at their year recap: 🙏 According to the #CETO #report, they play a crucial role in reducing the EU's dependence on Russian fossil fuels. In the buildings sector, heat pumps will contribute significantly to the shift away from fossil fuel. 🧡 Currently, the EU manufactures 20% of the world capacity. But we don't plan on stopping there! Our industry is still growing in #Europe and will be central to our #industrial #competitiveness. 📉 However, we hit some setbacks this year. According to the European Heat Pump Association market data, heat pump sales fell by 47% in the first six months of 2024, compared to the same time in 2023. 📈 But we should keep our hopes up! The European manufacturing capacity is expected to significantly increase and even, take the lead in 2030. 🏭 And, there's a lot to look forward in 2025: implementation of the full #Fitfor55 package, the new #Clean #Industrial #Deal and many other exciting files! 🚨 #Taxonomy Update! EPEE would like to thank the European Commission for this great work and the helpful specifications but, a small point needs to be added on Question 83. 🔎 “Question 83. The substantial contribution criterion in point 2.6.6. of Section 1.2. ‘Manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment’ refers to the term ‘fluor gas”’. Does this correspond to the chemical element F or to the F2 molecule? Answer: Fluor as a gas is only stable as the F2 molecule. Therefore, where the Delegated Act refers to fluor gas, it refers to F2 molecules and not to the single element F.” What does this mean? The mention of “fluor gas” here has led to confusion and is often wrongly understood as “fluorinated gas”, which is used as a #refrigerant in our equipment. As such, EPEE would like to point out, based on the explanation given by the Commission, that “fluor gas” here does not mean “fluorinated gas”, and that products containing #fluorinated #gases are aligned with this #Taxonomy #Technical #Screening #Criteria.
