⚠️ It is estimated that more than 90,000 tons of textile waste are generated in Serbia each year, while the amount for Bulgaria is over 100 000 tons. 💡 How producers, recyclers and the public manage this waste was the topic of the study visit organized by the TEX-DAN project in Novi Sad last week. The organizers showed two extremes of textile production - one was a small artisan factory where textiles are woven by hand before being turned into high-end designer garments. The other was a high-tech textile factory producing sporting goods for a major brand. Both facilities had different approaches to minimizing environmental impact and reducing textile waste. ♻️ The discussions confirmed that the sector faces similar challenges across Europe, but also showcased the unique solutions from each country and the possibility of future partnerships.   👉 Our colleague Simeon Stoyanov, Sustainability Specialist at TexCycle, joined the visit and shared our experience in the field of circular practices and textile recycling, including the Interreg Green-Tex, which works in close cooperation with TEX-DAN. 🌍 The national workshop on "Consolidating North Macedonia’s Institutional Framework for Circular Economy Transition" was held yesterday in Skopje. ♻️ Our Head of Sustainability, Sirma Zheleva, attended at the invitation of UNECE, where she shared our company’s best practices for advancing the shift to a circular model in the textile industry, as well as the economic, regulatory, and consumer challenges involved in this process. 🌿 North Macedonia has made progress by adopting key strategies and frameworks aligned with EU standards, including sustainable development, waste management, and climate action plans. Events like this aim to further assist policymakers and regulators in successfully integrating sustainable practices into resource use and production. What does full textile circularity mean? 🌏 Imagine a world where textile resources move in a continuous cycle, without the need for new raw materials and with no textile products ending up in landfills. This is the vision behind World Circular Textiles Day, which is taking place today. In our company, we are actively working to turn this concept into reality through: ✅ Partnerships with various businesses, offering solutions for managing their textile waste to reduce their environmental footprint. ✅ Separate collection and recovery of unwanted textiles from the community. ✅ Educational initiatives like TexCycle Eco Academy, which inform the public about sustainable management of textile resources. ♻ These activities are only part of the recycling services we offer, but they are crucial first steps towards creating a circular model in the textile industry.
