Scaling-up the commitment and implementation of financial mechanisms for deforestation- and conversion-free agriculture.
Sobre nós
IFACC is a collaborative initiative, launched in Glasgow in November 2021, by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA) hosted by the World Economic Forum, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The initiative brings together complementary capabilities, to scale up financial mechanisms such as farm loan products, farmland investment funds, corporate debt instruments and capital market offerings. To expedite progress on this front, there is an estimated need for as much as $30 billion in these sectors over the course of the decade, versus hundreds of millions available today. IFACC is working to accelerate financing in two ways: 1. IFACC unites leading banks, companies, investors, asset managers, to signal a collective commitment to lend, and invest more in the area of sustainable production. It also facilitates transparency on individual commitments from each signatory on their contribution towards expanding finance in the key sectors. 2. IFACC works with signatories to implement and scale up new finance mechanisms - including support on environmental and social management; connections to concessional capital groups and other capital providers for the longer-term and patient capital needed for these transitions; sharing insights about industry best practices, and leveraging data and studies on the business case and impacts. IFACC has been endorsed as a catalytic Initiative by the CEO Principals of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), the global coalition of leading financial institutions committed to accelerating the decarbonization of the economy, chaired by Mark Carney the UN Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance and anchored in the UN’s Race to Zero campaign.

It’s great to see data from our recent Scaling Nature Finance Now report - co-authored with Capital for Climate, Race to Resilience and Race to Zero – featured in this video, which was played at high-profile UK #COP29 events and bilateral meetings. The data, provided by Capital for Climate, shows that $1.67 billion was invested in Brazil’s nature last year – a sign that change is happening. IFACC and our signatories are leading the way on this, supporting efforts across the Amazon, Cerrado and Chaco to generate increased finance for deforestation & conversion-free beef and soy. But there is still a big global finance gap for nature-based solutions and food systems, and we hope that negotiators at #COP29 take concrete action to address this by including food and agriculture in the final New Collective Quantified Goal. It was great to see IFACC recognised as a leading initiative for food systems transformation by High-Level Climate Champions’ Emmanuelle Pinault at #COP29 this week. This year’s COP has a clear focus on climate finance, but with only 4% of current funds going to food systems, the work that IFACC & other innovative finance initiatives are doing is critical to mobilising capital for deforestation-free supply chains. Several of our signatories including Syngenta, AGBI Real Assets, Itau BBA and VOX Capital are all in Baku to talk about the innovative financial solutions that can ignite agricultural transformation. Climate finance will be centre stage at the #COP29 summit. COP29 can play a key role in establishing a $1 trillion climate finance target to support vulnerable countries and fund climate action - the UNFCCC’s Debbie Hillier explains how in this recent World Economic Forum article: https://lnkd.in/eEdzPrSy Many of our signatories, including Syngenta, AGBI Real Assets, Itau BBA and VOX Capital, will be on the ground in Baku discussing how we can mobilise finance for sustainable agriculture & climate action🌱 Are you going to COP29? IFACC recently conducted two training sessions in Argentina focused on innovative finance for sustainable agricultural production. Over 130 executives and specialists from banks and corporations participated in these sessions, which were supported by VISEC and Protocolo de Finanzas Sostenibles Argentina, one of them being hosted at the Inter-American Development Bank office in Buenos Aires. The Sustainable Finance Protocol of Argentina was created in 2019 and renewed in 2024 as a voluntary agreement between financial entities that seek to promote best international practices in terms of sustainability. The sessions were expertly directed by members of our secretariat; Thiago Paiva Grandi, Diego Ivanier, Tomás Kovensky, Raquel Costa, Paula Peirão, and Marcos Gambi. We were also joined by several of our signatories, including Itau BBA, Syngenta, Rabobank, and AGRI3 Fund, who shared their experiences in developing sustainable financing mechanisms in the Cerrado with a focus on pastureland recovery. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with our signatories to deliver solutions that drive investment into sustainable production and facilitate positive change. The Sustainable Finance Protocol of Argentina was created in 2019 and renewed in 2024 as a voluntary agreement between financial entities that seek to promote best international practices in terms of sustainability. VISEC is a platform for environmental and social sustainability that brings together members of different value chains. With collaborative efforts and pre-competitive strategies, VISEC focuses on complying with emerging national and global demands, fostering comprehensive sustainability in the participant business systems. #IFACC #InnovativeFinance

On Saturday at #COP16, Tropical Forest Alliance’s Danielle Carreira moderated a brilliant panel - made up of Seguros SURA Colombia’s Juan David Escobar Franco, BB Asset Management’s Denísio Liberato and Scotiabank’s Daniel Gracian Mariño – that discussed innovative finance and the mobilisation of capital for biodiversity in Latin America and the Caribbean. Hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), the event saw speakers discuss the opportunities for collaboration and the need for positive examples that investors can replicate. Scotiabank’s Daniel emphasised the importance of data availability, and how regional teams can support efforts to make Latin America a hub for sustainable finance. IFACC is supporting this opportunity by helping banks, companies and investors to scale innovative finance for deforestation/ conversion-free beef and soy. “More innovative financing mechanisms could help drive the transformation of food systems and ensure sustainable development” In this article, the World Economic Forum’s Derek Baraldi and Aurora M. explain how mechanisms like blended finance, private equity funding and payments for ecosystem services could help transform global food systems, which are responsible for 30% of global emissions. They highlight how initiatives like IFACC are helping drive much-needed finance into the Amazon, Cerrado and Chaco – supporting the production of deforestation and conversion-free soy in these critical ecosystems 🌲 Read the article by clicking the link in the comments. #InnovativeFinance #IFACC #ClimateFinance Tropical Forest Alliance The Nature Conservancy UN Environment Programme

We were delighted to present our latest Bioeconomy Report at a meeting held by Coalizão Brasil Clima, Florestas e Agricultura's Bioeconomy Task Force last month. This meeting provided a great opportunity to discuss the findings in our report, which explores the finance needed to support agroforestry and non-timber forest product producers, and to further delve into the capital available for the bioeconomy in Brazil. We’d like to give thanks to the Coalition for inviting us, and to Climate Policy Initiative who joined us at the debate to discuss their latest report, which highlights finance disbursed between 2021-2023 to help Brazil’s bioeconomy. The Nature Conservancy’s Marcos Gambi recently participated on a panel for the 4th Brazil-China Dialogue on Green Finance and Sustainable Agriculture Cooperation in São Paulo. Read what was discussed below ⬇️ #IFACC #InnovativeFinance
Last week I participated as a panelist at the 4th Brazil-China Dialogue on Green Finance and Sustainable Agriculture Cooperation in São Paulo. It was an incredible opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities of green financing in the agricultural sector with experts from both countries, and to present the achievements of the IFACC Initiative. A big thank you to the Conselho Empresarial Brasil-China (CEBC), Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS), Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS), and Itaú BBA for organizing such a meaningful event. I look forward to continuing these important discussions and contributing to sustainable development. #GreenFinance #SustainableAgriculture #BrazilChinaCooperation
