  • This week, the BCIT ASCM Student Chapter had the opportunity to tour the London Drugs Distribution Service Center in Richmond, BC. A huge thank you to our hosts, Lothar Breuers, Travis Carnahan, and Allan, for providing such a fascinating and insightful experience! During the tour, we gained a firsthand look at how London Drugs achieves their operational goals in supply chain. Here are a few highlights that left us inspired: 🔄 Goods-to-Person Technology We saw innovative systems where products are brought directly to workers during order picking, rather than workers traveling to the products. This approach significantly boosts productivity and reduces worker fatigue—a true game-changer in warehouse efficiency. ♻ Sustainable Returns London Drugs champions their reverse logistics process, enabling customers to return products for recycling. It’s inspiring to see a commitment to sustainability integrated into their supply chain operations. ✅ Poka Yoke in Action Their use of poka yoke (error-proofing) systems ensures exceptional accuracy in operations, making their processes not only efficient but also incredibly reliable for both employees and customers. We’re grateful for the chance to see these innovative practices and to learn how logistics and supply chain management come to life in a real-world setting. We hope to continue building this valuable relationship between London Drugs and BCIT. Thank you again to the entire London Drugs team for hosting us and sharing your knowledge and expertise!

  • Our club delegates—Timothy John Ureta, Manraj Gill, and Nathan Kwan—had an incredible experience attending the ASCM WC 2024 Summit on October 24! Club President ,Timothy John Ureta, delivered a standout presentation on his team’s strategy and journey in the ASCM Case Study Student Challenge, sharing insights on how they secured the win. Our delegates found the speaker events and case study presentations especially valuable, with lots of takeaways relevant to students preparing for careers in supply chain management. A highlight of the day was meeting Phil Ramer, Associate Dean of Operations at BCIT, who shared insights into the BCIT Operations program and its alignment with industry needs. Delegates also connected with members from other student chapters, including OTM CLUB, UBC Supply Chain & Operations Association, and ASCM - Calgary Student Forum. Thank you to ASCM Western Canada for hosting this unforgettable day of learning, networking, and inspiration! #BCIT #ASCMSummit #SupplyChainStudents #Networking #Learning #FutureLeade
