#Woundcare is a significant challenge that health care systems face around the world. Limited resources, vast geographies and access to care can be challenges in rural regions. Essential wound care being accessible to even the most remote and underserved areas will reshape the delivery of care in rural communities. Brightshores Health System's Office of Research and Innovation in collaboration with leading partners including Swift Medical, Giishkaandago'Ikwe Health Services, the National Research Council of Canada, and the Centre for Technology Adoption for Aging in the North at the University of Northern British Columbia, is spearheading the creation of an Advanced AI Wound Care Network, funded by DIGITAL, the Global Innovation Cluster. Swift Medical's application is a digital wound care tool that implements #artificialintelligence (#AI) to streamline data collection and increase access to high-quality care. Providing quality care close to home is a commitment we take seriously. We regret having to be in the position of making a temporary change regarding our cancer program referrals due to a physician shortage. This will impact some newly diagnosed cancer patients who will be redirected to the closest cancer centre. Brightshores Research & Innovation attended the Canadian Space Health Research Network Symposium last week in London, Ontario. Brightshores Research was represented by Rebecca Brookham, Rebecca Johnson, along with collaborators Ibukun-Oluwa Abejirinde (Trillium Health Partners, University of Toronto) and Ugonna Ofonagoro (Trillium Health Partners) in a poster entitled “Development and validation of an evaluation framework for implementing Artificial Intelligence for healthcare in a rural community”. November 3rd – 9th marks Medical Radiation Technologists (MRT) week! MRTs deliver professional imaging and radiation-related treatment services with compassion.

With #Halloween just around the corner, the treats are going to be flowing in many households across #GreyBruce and all over #Ontario! This is a great time to remind parents and caregivers that #cannabis edibles that are disguised and/or marketed as candy look exactly like... well, candy! Kids can't tell the difference and an alarming increase of children being brought into hospital emergency departments has risen over 1300% since 2017, as reported in a 2023 study conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics. In Canada, it is the law that Cannabis products must be sold in plain packaging to help protect kids from harm. Patient Safety Week runs from October 28th – November 1st. We all contribute to patient safety. At Brightshores, we focus on providing high quality, excellent patient care. Part of keeping patients safe when they visit the hospital, is to make sure we introduce ourselves. We sat down with some of our Brightshores patients and team members and learned more about why introductions are important to them. #CPSW2024 #PatientSafety 

October is Occupational Therapy (OT) Month! OTs work empowers patients to perform everyday activities to help them lead more independent and healthy lives. They are dedicated to providing excellent care and keeping our communities healthy. 

Last week was Health Care Facilities and Engineering Week. Our Brightshores Facilities and Engineering teams handle almost 25,000 work order requests annually. They are dedicated to providing excellent service and keeping our facilities in top shape. Thank you for your hard work!

It is Respiratory Therapist (RT) Week! RT’s help a wide range of patients who are having trouble breathing, from premature infants whose lungs are not fully developed to individuals with lung disease. Thank you for your dedication to care!
