European Pilots, Air Line Pilots Association, & IFALPA said it in 2023 & we say it today, automation is no replacement for the skills and experience of two or more pilots who are currently required to be on the flight deck and at the controls at all times. https://lnkd.in/eTT7ZUXi #safetystartswith2 #onemeansnone #aviationsafety #twopilotsalways

Press Release - Global Pilots on Accident at Toronto Pearson Airport https://lnkd.in/eCAWiP7N MONTREAL – The International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) is closely monitoring the developments related to the accident of Delta flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air. Our thoughts are with the injured and affected passengers and crew. The Federation remains at the disposal of its Member Association in the United States and Canada, Air Line Pilots Association, to assist in any way necessary and gather any information which may be pertinent to the investigation. We remain committed to supporting the efforts of the authorities as they work to determine the contributing factors of this accident. The Federation urges caution against speculation in media and social media surrounding this event. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident should strictly follow the provisions laid out in ICAO Annex 13, with conclusions and safety recommendations identified by the appropriate investigative bodies. #aviationsafety #accidentinvestigation

Fatigue among pilots is a serious safety issue that demands urgent attention. The fact that 3 out of 4 pilots reported insufficient rest in 2023 highlights a critical problem in aviation. A big thank you to Daniele Veronelli for advocating on behalf of European pilots and raising this crucial issue. Hopefully, this awareness leads to better regulations, improved working conditions, and a stronger commitment to flight safety across the industry.
𝗜𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀? I had the opportunity to bring the point of view of European Pilots represented in ECA to the Eurocontrol Network Manager user forum: two intense days of very interesting discussions, analyzing the most critical aspects of the system, with a focus on resilience. I had the chance to stress how 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀’ 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲 is a critical part of the system, leading not only to safety issues, but also to delays and disruptions for all the parts involved. Sustainable rosters preventing pilots’ fatigue, realistic turnarounds, better weather forecast and its integration in ATC systems, usage of CPDLC will be some of the keys for a successful outcome of next Summer.

Happy to host the IFALPA Fatigue Management (FM) Course at Vereinigung Cockpit headquarter in Frankfurt. The course is intended for all parties involved in the management of fatigue in air operations. Two days of instruction and discussion in FM culminate in simulated FSAG practical exercises.

What a great meeting of the IFALPA Professional & Government Affairs Committee, but especially, how important was to be there, in Nairobi, engaging with our friends and colleagues of the Committee and the IFALPA AFIMID Region. Sharing opinions and experiences from around the globe. Listening to the needs and worries of our colleagues from a Region that has so much potential. So much to offer. Our hosts, the Kenya Airline Pilot’s Association (KALPA), couldn’t have organised this meeting better. Thanks to them for their warmth and hospitality. And I cannot stress enough the importance of a strong, united and respectful team of human beings. I’m lucky and proud to work with such talented and committed professionals. I am certain that every single attendee went back home confident and pleased of the positive outcome of these last three days of intense work. As said during the meeting, this is not a one off… this is just the start.

As the global voice of pilots, IFALPA's role is to represent our common interests at the International Civil Aviation Organization and beyond, and also to coordinate, assist and support its member associations. This week the IFALPA Professional & Government Affairs Committee was hosted in Nairobi by the Kenya Airline Pilots Association. While global affairs were on the table, the closeness of the meeting to our African and Middle Eastern associations lifted regional perspectives and issues to the forefront. Pilot representatives often do their work on their free time, and not all airlines will release them from their roster to participate. Holding our meeting in the region made it much more accessible, and we were happy with such broad participation. Prior to the two day session, a 'Focus on Africa' event was held, attended by top industry stakeholders in Kenya. The event addressed sustainable growth in the region and a positive safety culture. The committee discussed the regional implementation of EASA FTL, interoperability between AOCs, industrial policies, extended minimum crew operations (eMCO), the bargaining environment and strategic planning, and preparations for the 42nd ICAO Assembly. The committee has strong leadership in its chair Capt. Akseli Meskanen. During the days in Nairobi it was further strengthened by the elections of Capt. Mark Segaloff and Capt. Hilario Castillo Chávarri as Vice Chairs. A warm thank you to KALPA for hosting and for their amazing hospitality and generosity throughout our stay in Kenya. 📸: Yours truly flanked by KALPA's IFALPA Director Nzongi Evelyne and IFALPA PGA Committee Chair Akseli Meskanen.

Joint Position Paper - https://lnkd.in/eMjnWgwv - ACI EUROPE, European Pilots, Flight Safety Foundation, International Air Transport Association (IATA), ICCAIA - International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations, IFALPA, and IFATCA are increasingly concerned about the inconsistent State compliance with ICAO Annex 13 Standards related to the publication and, in some cases, the non-finalization of accident investigation reports. States should follow the requirements laid out in this Annex and publish thorough final reports, in accordance with the established timelines, to guarantee the continuous improvement of aviation safety. #aviation #accidentreports #aviationsafety #pilotsafety
