Dear Connections…. Excited to announce that I've completed the Youth in Development Fellowship program and joined the Impact Toolbox Network! 🎓✨ Over the last 6 months, I’ve had the opportunity to engage in courses focused on social impact strategy, social entrepreneurship, and storytelling for marketing. The program included hands-on boot camps, dynamic discussions, and culminated with an Investment Pitch Lab and Demo Day. This experience has been invaluable in shaping my vision for social change and entrepreneurship. Grateful to have connected with fellow changemakers and look forward to leveraging these insights in future endeavors! 🌍💡 #YouthInDevelopment #ImpactToolbox #SocialEntrepreneurship #Leadership #Changemakers

Something happened yesterday!💃🏾 I was honoured with the 2024 ‘Inspiration Award’ at the Annual Success Luncheon by Dress for Success Vancouver 🙏🏾🎉 (DSFV), an event held to raise funds for the work in supporting women and gender diverse individuals. Thank you to everyone who came through and donated💕. 💡In their words ‘The Inspiration Award is presented to a DFSV client who exemplifies leadership and community engagement. This award recognizes an individual who has built a successful career, while also giving back to the DFSV community’. I am truly grateful for this recognition. I could not post about it yesterday because as I told my friend ‘I was overwhelmed’. You know when you sit and think ‘Really? This is happening to me?’ I shared my story with the room full of over 400 people - the audacity to pack my bags at over 40 years old and move continents, leaving my successful career and extensive professional and friends network behind. The loneliness and isolation that the unexpected pandemic brought, 2 months after we relocated. The fear, panic and sadness that set in as I watched my carefully laid out plans disintegrate before my eyes🥹😢, BUT refusing to give up and go back to where I was coming from. My struggles as I sought to build new connections and find my way in my new country. That’s why I always say ‘Immigrants are some of the strongest people you will ever meet’ and therein lies what drives my passion to advance our community. I am deeply grateful to my DFVS mentor Mary Hodder who let me drink from her well of wisdom and Surrey Board of Trade that became one of the big connection platforms that have led me to this point 💐. To Zoe Galloway, Amanda Sayfy, CFRE Lucy Schilling, Sydney Budgeon, Jenn Witt and the entire DSFV team, thanks for all the support and preparation. To Astrid Levelt, the formidable woman who founded this organization and on whose shoulder we all now stand, THANK YOU 💐. My sincere appreciation to my colleagues at Aritzia who came to cheer me on, Corinne Kepper making sure I repped the Aritzia brand nicely and my darling friend Seye Fagbuyi, always by my side 🥂. To my fellow ambassadors at DFSV Mahek Lakhotia and Sanam, it was amazing to see you both ❤️🥰. My darling husband, Olusegun Adewuyi, thank you for supporting me and letting me be who I am meant to be 🙏🏾💕. #inspiration #resilience #recognition #gratitude #immigrantstories

  • One thing I've learnt over time is that we can't completely rely on grants to sustain our good projects. Social enterprise is the way to go! It doesn't stop you from the social impact; it only ensures that you're able to financially cover yourself and your team. - Wendy Aura

Celebrating Completion🥳🥳. It's been 6 whole months of several modules of learning, pitching and assignments. Through this, we’ve built a global network, participated in 3 boot camps and 4 co-share sessions, connected with world-class experts. I must say it hasn't been easy, especially having to finish all assignments to get certified in the topics. When I almost gave up, I looked back and asked myself if I really wanted to throw away the efforts put halfway so far. And here we are! I deepened my understanding of running social enterprises. One thing I've learnt over time is that we can't completely rely on grants to sustain our good projects. Social enterprise is the way to go! It doesn't stop you from the social impact; it only ensures that you're able to financially cover yourself and your team. Key areas of learning were: Starting A Social Enterprise Marketing and Digital Storytelling for Social Enterprises Developing Business Models. And I want to acknowledge my mentor Nafula Kisiangani for introducing this concept in my mind. Curiosity led me to this. Cheers to more learning 🙌 Impact Toolbox, thank you!
