Today marks the two-year anniversary of the commissioning of HMCS Margaret Brooke. The second of six Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships built for the Royal Canadian Navy, AOPS #2 is homeported at CFB Halifax. We continue to wish the vessel and crew fair winds, following seas and a safe return home from every mission.

In 2020, COVE launched a comprehensive study of Canada’s Ocean Enterprise, resulting in the Canadian Ocean Enterprise 2020 White Paper, which compared Canada’s marine sector to those of the UK and US. Building on this, the 2022 White Paper showcased significant growth and dynamism. The newly released 2024 Ocean Enterprise Report continues this momentum, analyzing Canada’s expanding marine economy and highlighting key developments across various ocean sectors. Key findings reveal a thriving marine technology landscape with increased investment, workforce growth, and strong international partnerships. Artificial intelligence is playing a pivotal role, primarily in data analysis and research, with expected growth into environmental monitoring and predictive maintenance over the next 24 months. However, challenges like uncertain return on investment, limited technical expertise, and data privacy concerns could impact broader adoption.
