Last week, our Energy Co-op students had the chance to visit Georgian College’s Owen Sound campus, where they engaged in hands-on learning with the electrical techniques program and learned about apprenticeships. Guided by skilled instructors, the students practiced soldering fundamentals, gaining practical experience in an encouraging environment. This visit was a great way for students to see the exciting opportunities available right here in our region. With skilled trades and engineering technology programs nearby, students can explore career pathways in clean energy and beyond without venturing far from home. A big thank you to Georgian College for showcasing what’s possible through education and training close to where we live and work, and to our Founding Members for helping us inspire the next generation. In 2024, NII took an important step toward localizing the global issue of climate change with the launch of The Climate Project, a trusted digital hub funded by Bruce Power. This initiative provides actionable insights into what a changing climate means for Bruce, Grey, and Huron counties and local Indigenous communities within Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territory. From the impact of rising air temperatures on Lake Huron’s fish to the threat of invasive species in local forests, The Climate Project delivers research and knowledge tailored to our region. Visit www.climateproject.ca to explore how climate change is shaping our air, water and land. #ClimateAction #LocalizedResearch #Environment #LakeHuron

Two local filmmakers, Katie Stewart and Atticus Russwurm, are shining a spotlight on climate action through storytelling with their miniseries Green Grey Blue. This inspiring project highlights regional climate initiatives and experiences to foster environmental stewardship and community pride. Supported by the Town of The Blue Mountains Youth Climate Action Fund, the program empowers youth (ages 15-24) to lead creative and impactful climate solutions in their communities. We were thrilled to connect Katie and Atticus with Chad Richards, Senior Director of the Bruce Power Nexus Research Centre at NII, for an energy-focused episode. Chad shared insights on nuclear power’s role in the clean energy transition, environmental responsibility, and even tackled some myth-busting along the way: “There are no Homers working in the Canadian nuclear industry!” It’s inspiring to see young leaders using storytelling to drive awareness and action on climate change. Congratulations to Katie, Atticus, and all the recipients of the Youth Climate Action Fund—we can’t wait to see Green Grey Blue! #ClimateAction #YouthLeadership #CleanEnergy
