After being injured in a car crash in 2019, Sarah was airlifted to the Sunnybrook trauma centre unconscious and was given only a 10 per cent chance of survival. Her lungs had collapsed, her liver was cut in half, and her brain was bleeding. She remained in a coma for six weeks, but miraculously regained consciousness. It has been a busy couple of weeks at Ornge’s Thunder Bay hangar! We have hosted several student groups who had the chance to tour the Ornge hangar, meet Ornge staff, and learn about potential career opportunities. On November 22, second-year students from Confederation College Primary Care Paramedic program ran through scenarios with Ornge Clinical Practice Leads and Critical Care Residents. On December 11, students from Matawa Education & Care Centre learned how Ornge services remote and rural communities across Northern Ontario. On December 12, approximately 100 students from St. Ignatius participated in hands-on learning with Ornge’s paramedics, pilots, and aircraft maintenance engineers.
