Seeing this project come together was definitely a 2024 highlight for me. With Project Forest we were able to plant about 50ha of previously cleared land, creating a future conifer forest that includes culturally important species like saskatoons, strawberries, raspberries, willows, ash, and choke cherry. A project for future generations to enjoy 🍓🌲🌳🦌 Doig River First Nation

Stefan’s Extraordinary Journey to Plant More Trees 🌊🌲 When Stefan Schreiber reached out to us and said, "I want to swim the English Channel to raise money for the Siksika Nation Community Shelterbelt Program," we were stunned. The English Channel—one of the world's most challenging swims—for trees? 😳 But that's exactly what Stefan is doing. Through freezing waters and intense training, he's driven by his goal to fundraise in support of the Siksika Nation Community Shelterbelt Program. As Stefan shares, "Even when the swim got tough, there was one thing that kept me going: the overwhelming support for my fundraiser […] the generosity of friends, family, and strangers has been nothing short of inspiring." While most of our rewilding projects are funded by large organizations, it's passionate individuals like Stefan who remind us that we each have the power to transform our world—one tree at a time. Do you want to be part of this incredible journey? Follow Stefan's challenge and support the Siksika Nation Community Shelterbelt Program, link in the comments 👇 Go Stefan!! 🙌 #ProjectForest #SiksikaNation #Community Siksika Nation Tribal Administration

  • Josh Alexis, Project Forest’s Indigenous and Rewilding Specialist, was invited to speak at Dr. Charles Nock's Forestry Ecosystems class at the University of Alberta last week for their final lecture of the semester! Josh's presentation on "Connections & Earth Teachings" offered students valuable insights into First Nations perspectives and their relationship to the land. A highlight was Josh sharing a traditional song on his drum, bringing these important teachings to life in a powerful and moving way. Special thanks to Dr. Nock for inviting Project Forest to participate in this learning opportunity. We're grateful to contribute to the education of our future forestry professionals both in the field and in the classroom. To all the students preparing for exams - wishing you the very best with your exams and continued studies! 🍀 #ForestryEducation #IndigenousKnowledge #ProjectForest

For every new hire, we plant a tree. EllisDon is proud to continue our partnership with Project Forest, a non-profit dedicated to rewilding local landscapes and naturally capturing carbon. Together, we’re supporting the Siksika Nation Community near Calgary, Alberta, in a transformative project to restore natural infrastructure and combat the effects of climate change. Through our contributions, alongside other generous donors, 130,760 trees and shrubs have been planted, creating 27.8 km of new shelterbelts across residential and agricultural areas. In the next four years, an additional 800,000 seedlings will help bring vital green spaces and improve resilience to climate change. This initiative not only has an immediate positive impact on the community but also serves as a meaningful way to welcome new hires, aligning with our commitment to sustainability. This weeks Green Spotlight shines on Project Forest, an inspiring initiative transforming Alberta’s landscapes and making a significant impact right here in Alberta. Mike Toffan and the team at Project Forest are on a mission to restore and protect Alberta’s natural ecosystems by transforming underutilized land into thriving, biodiverse forests. Through their rewilding efforts, Project Forest has made incredible strides in fostering biodiversity, and creating green spaces that benefit both the environment and local communities. They have grown, managed and protected 50-60 million trees a year over the last 20 years. Their work goes beyond just planting trees. Project Forest focuses on restoring ecological balance by carefully selecting native species and fostering long-term forest management. These efforts ensure that the forests they grow are resilient, self-sustaining, and beneficial for generations to come. With the help of community partnerships and passionate volunteers, Project Forest is not only sequestering carbon but also creating habitats for countless species. What makes Project Forest truly inspiring is its emphasis on collaboration. They partner with businesses, landowners, and Indigenous communities to align their goals with local needs and values. These partnerships ensure that the land restoration process reflects the unique characteristics of Alberta’s ecosystems while fostering sustainable economic opportunities. From rewilding industrial sites to restoring grasslands and wetlands, Project Forest is proof that combining innovation, dedication, and community spirit can lead to extraordinary environmental impact. They’re building a legacy for a greener Alberta, one tree at a time. Join the movement! • We're excited to announce that EllisDon has renewed and upgraded their partnership with Project Forest for 2025!🌲 We’re thrilled to announce EllisDon’s continued support of the Siksika Nation Community Shelterbelt Program. For every new hire until the end of 2025, EllisDon will plant a tree as part of our shelterbelt project with the Nation—in 2024 they planted 1,000 trees and in 2025 they are committing to 2,000 more! These vital shelterbelts protect the community from harsh weather, provide traditional food and medicine plants, and build climate resilience. Thank you, EllisDon, for growing alongside us and for your continued commitment to rewilding Canada, one forest at a time. #RewildingCanada #CorporateResponsibility #GivingBack #IndigenousPartnerships
