It’s International Volunteer Day! We're committed to giving back to the communities in which we build. Collaborating with local non-profit partners, our goal is to amplify the good work they do and provide support where they need it most. Building community is our passion. We’re proud to have built meaningful partnerships with organizations such as CityReach Care Society, Union Gospel Mission (Vancouver), Working Gear Clothing Society, Ocean Wise, The Sharing Farm Society, and Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, empowering our people to get involved through volunteering. This year, our team has had the privilege to contribute +1,400 volunteer hours, impacting nearly 76,000 lives through volunteerism! An incredible few days of meaningful conversations with UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS) and our community partner, CityReach Care Society, connecting on critical issues around food security and recovery in our communities. A heartfelt thank you to former Dean, Dr. Rickey Yada, UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS), who initiated connections within the UBC LFS group on shared priorities with Cityreach, and their vital community food programs. We were recently treated to a tour of the UBC Farm | Centre for Sustainable Food Systems where we explored the indigenous gardens, Children’s Greenhouse and a forest walk with Dr. Will Valley, Zoë Campbell and Anna Brookes. We also visited the UBC Wine Research Centre with Dr. Simone Diego Castellarin where he kindly shared the history of the Wine Library along with many of the wines! Jay Martiniuk took us through a wine-tasting, expertly showcasing three Cabernet Francs. Finally, we were joined by Dean Pro Tem Dr. David Kitts and Dr. Jennifer Black, culminating with a delicious lunch and engaging discussion. We thank everyone involved for such a memorable experience and we look forward to continuing the conversations!
