Give what you can. Take what you need. These words define Kiwassa Neighbourhood House, a vital community hub serving Hastings-Sunrise for over 70 years. From early childhood programs to seniors’ support, from food security initiatives to employment and newcomer settlement services, Kiwassa ensures that essential programs remain free or as accessible as possible. In partnership with BC Housing and the City of Vancouver, Kiwassa also operates both a subsidized and a market-rental housing complex providing 56 much-needed homes for the neighbourhood. The Robert Bosa Foundation is proud to contribute annual funding towards a number of Kiwassa’s programs – including their children’s Nest Program, providing wrap-around support to those most in need; and their vital food program, focused on food security, food justice, and dignified food access – distributing hampers and nutritious meals to vulnerable community members. In 2024, Kiwassa provided 1,200 low-cost community lunches, 925 nutritious snacks for seniors, and 4,410 hot breakfasts for students at Tillicum Elementary and their families! 🫶 🙏 👏 Sylvia Bosa, Director of the Robert Bosa Foundation, shares why this partnership is so important: “What’s so special about Kiwassa is their community-centric approach. They serve a large seniors’ population as well as young families – providing everything from breakfasts to subsidized housing - It’s a true centre of gravity for support in this neighbourhood.” Kiwassa’s impact goes beyond services – it’s about connection and belonging. As Executive Director, Darius Maze, RHFAC, ICD.D notes, “One gentleman comes in every day for coffee – he sees us as a place where he's safe and comfortable. Many visitors start as participants, then become volunteers, and eventually even employees. Kiwassa offers something for everyone, strengthening those social bonds that make our community stronger.” Kiwassa is all about bringing people together and creating opportunities. We’re grateful for the incredible work they do in building connections and strengthening our community. 💛 Photo credit: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House #CommunityMatters #Kiwassa #RobertBosaFoundation #GivingBack #SupportingCommunities

So fortunate to partner with the passionate and talented team at CityReach Care Society - where they provide vital support to those most in need in our communities! 💛
"Just do the right thing" ... what a powerful reminder from Mike McDonough and the Axiom Builders team at their "Lunch & Learn" event this week. We were honoured to be able to represent and share about our work in the community, and to celebrate the incredible efforts of the Axiom team alongside Robert Bosa Foundation Special thanks to Connie Mair for not only spearheading this event, but for championing the community building and impact efforts all across the organization. CityReach has undoubtedly been changed by your investment here. We are humbled by and endebted to Sylvia Bosa and her leadership of the Foundation, continuing the incredible decades-long history of the Bosa family in not only "building IN communities, but building WITH communities." We are honoured to be part of this legacy building, by transforming communities together - and ensuring everyone has a chance to find belonging, and ultimately to find HOPE. Simon Gau Cheryl McManus

In the heart of the Downtown Eastside, an inspiring social enterprise makes a remarkable difference in the lives of those who need it most.💛 Under the leadership of Executive Director Naved Noorani, Potluck Café Society operates a thriving catering business in the neighbourhood. It employs individuals from the community, many of whom face significant barriers to traditional employment. Addressing food insecurity - a fundamental human need - is one of the Robert Bosa Foundation’s key initiatives. Food insecurity remains a critical concern in the Downtown Eastside, a neighbourhood marked by high poverty levels and socioeconomic challenges. We are proud to partner with Potluck, serving 500 warm and nutritious meals each week to disadvantaged community residents. An additional 85 meals a week are also distributed to The Kettle Society, an organization that empowers people living with mental illness, substance use, poverty, and/or homelessness by providing housing, employment, and community services and programs. These partnerships not only offer sustenance but empower lives by fostering opportunities for practical training, low-barrier employment, and hope. 😊🙏 Thank you, Potluck Café Society and the Kettle Society, for your continued dedication to our community! Together, we are committed to creating a healthier, more inclusive Vancouver—and hope that these acts of care can create meaningful change. 🚀🌟 #communitybuilding #robertbosafoundation #potluckcafesociety #kettlesociety

An incredible few days of meaningful conversations with UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS) and our community partner, CityReach Care Society, connecting on critical issues around food security and recovery in our communities. A heartfelt thank you to former Dean, Dr. Rickey Yada, UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS), who initiated connections within the UBC LFS group on shared priorities with Cityreach, and their vital community food programs. We were recently treated to a tour of the UBC Farm | Centre for Sustainable Food Systems where we explored the indigenous gardens, Children’s Greenhouse and a forest walk with Dr. Will Valley, Zoë Campbell and Anna Brookes. We also visited the UBC Wine Research Centre with Dr. Simone Diego Castellarin where he kindly shared the history of the Wine Library along with many of the wines! Jay Martiniuk took us through a wine-tasting, expertly showcasing three Cabernet Francs. Finally, we were joined by Dean Pro Tem Dr. David Kitts and Dr. Jennifer Black, culminating with a delicious lunch and engaging discussion. We thank everyone involved for such a memorable experience and we look forward to continuing the conversations!
