We are committed to engaging with the community and providing opportunities for meaningful input. In September, we successfully completed the third and final phase of public engagement for the Holdom Overpass Project, part of Burnaby Rail Corridor Improvements Project, in partnership with City of Burnaby and CN. Our phase three engagement summary report highlights feedback received from the community. A big thank you to everyone who has provided their feedback since 2020. Your thoughts and ideas are helping us develop a construction and traffic management plan. Read the engagement summary report: https://bit.ly/4ggMv9C

About us
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is responsible for the stewardship of federal port lands in and around Vancouver, British Columbia. Like all Canada Port Authorities, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is established by the Government of Canada pursuant to the Canada Marine Act, and accountable to the federal Minister of Transport. Our mandate is to facilitate Canada’s trade objectives, ensuring goods are moved safely, while protecting the environment and considering local communities. The Port of Vancouver is Canada’s largest, supporting close to one in every five dollars of trade in goods that flow through our country and offering the broadest range of cargo-handling options of any port in North America. Positioned on the southwest coast of British Columbia in Canada, the Port of Vancouver extends from Roberts Bank and the Fraser River up to and including Burrard Inlet. The port authority manages over 16,000 hectares of water, more than 1,000 hectares of land and approximately 350 kilometres of shoreline that make up the port.

Earlier this week, we celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the ECHO Program – a collaborative regional initiative to better understand and reduce the impacts of commercial ship traffic on at-risk whales. Through this program, our partners and advisors from across government, industry, environmental groups, and Indigenous communities have helped to reduce key risks to at-risk whales off our coast, such as underwater noise and ship strike risk. We’re excited to continue that work in the decade ahead. What an incredible season for Vancouver's cruise industry! As the Norwegian Jewel set sail from Canada Place earlier this year, we continue to reflect on a milestone year at the Port of Vancouver. In just eight months, we welcomed over 1.32 million passengers and celebrated 327 ship visits! That's a remarkable achievement, surpassing last year’s record by more than 80,000 passengers—a 7% increase! Thank you to everyone who helped make this season successful, including our many destination, government and cruise line partners. Learn more about this season’s highlights: https://bit.ly/3NJlC1Z

We are excited to celebrate the successful installation and operational deployment of Norsepower Rotor Sails on the Chinook Oldendorff. This innovative step by Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG marks a significant advancement in sustainable maritime transportation. By harnessing wind energy to generate additional thrust, the Chinook Oldendorff is expected to reduce fuel consumption on transpacific routes by 10-15%. We're proud to see such groundbreaking initiatives that contribute to lowering emissions and promoting greener shipping practices at the Port of Vancouver. Congratulations to Oldendorff Carriers and Elk Valley Resources on this collaborative achievement. Together, we're moving towards a more sustainable future in global trade.

We’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of the ECHO Program, a collaborative initiative to better understand and reduce the impacts of commercial shipping on at-risk whales off our coast. Thank you to the program’s many partners, advisors, and participants who have dedicated their time and effort to support the recovery of endangered killer whales. With your efforts, we’ve made a meaningful difference for at-risk whales off the coast of BC, and we’re excited to continue this work in the years ahead. Congratulations to Seaspan ULC for becoming the first LNG bunkering supplier at the Port of Vancouver! Seaspan Energy recently received their accreditation to provide fueling services to LNG-powered vessels calling Vancouver. This milestone follows a rigorous, multi-year accreditation process in line with international best practices and safety guidelines recommended by the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF). With this accreditation, Seaspan Energy will help streamline port calls for many tankers, car carriers, and container and cruise ships using LNG as their fuel and support the international shipping sector's emissions reduction goals. #DYK on a busy cruise day this season, Richmond-based Blundell Seafoods packed as much as 20,000 kg of fresh and frozen local seafood into crates to supply visiting cruise ships—delivering favourites such as B.C.’s famous salmon to docked vessels brimming with passengers eagerly awaiting to depart for Alaska. Each visit by a cruise ship to the #CanadaPlace cruise terminal injects about $3 million into the local economy. This includes spending by tourists and crew on food, drink, accommodation and experiences, as well as spending by cruise lines stocking, fueling and maintaining their ships.
