With our Direct Air Capture technology, we remove CO₂ from the air to fight global warming.
Info
Climeworks empowers people and companies to fight global warming by offering carbon dioxide removal as a service via Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. At Orca and Mammoth, Climeworks’ DAC facilities in Iceland, the CO₂ is permanently removed from the air by capturing and geologically storing it for thousands of years with Climeworks’ storage partner Carbfix. Climeworks’ DAC facilities run exclusively on low carbon energy, and our modular CO₂ collectors can be stacked to build machines of any capacity. Founded by engineers Christoph Gebald and Jan Wurzbacher in 2009, Climeworks is on a journey to climate impact at scale. To do so, we strive to inspire 1 billion people to act and remove CO₂ from the air.

We love to see bipartisan support for carbon removal! "Climeworks commends U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Lisa Murkowski for their leadership on the Carbon Dioxide Removal Investment Act. Last year, Climeworks was honored to host the Senators as part of a bipartisan delegation to our direct air capture facilities in Iceland. The CDR Investment Act would drive even more investment in the US to deploy the next generation of CDR projects and supercharge American leadership in carbon management," said Andrew Fishbein, Climeworks’ Lead Government Affairs North America. https://lnkd.in/g7qXnWHw

At COP29 Azerbaijan, our Director of Policy & Government Affairs, Louise Matthias, moderated an inspiring panel to explore how global carbon credit markets can accelerate climate progress. The session, “Incentivizing Climate Action: How a Global Trading Mechanism Will Help Countries Reach NDCs Faster and Fairer,” showcased that it's about taking action, learning as we go, adapting, and evolving as the sector grows. Louise emphasized that "getting carbon markets to function correctly is vital, as carbon credits are essential to scaling both the business and the industry." Thank you to the Nordic Council of Ministers and Nordic Council for hosting this vital discussion at the Nordic Pavilion. Climate action is a speed game 🚀 The urgency to achieve climate goals is fueling momentum like never before at COP29 Azerbaijan and restlessness isn’t a setback, it’s a driving force for progress. One of our sessions, "Incentivizing Climate Action: How a Global Trading Mechanism Will Help Countries Reach NDCs Faster and Fairer.” explored both the challenges and vast opportunities within carbon credit markets. While Article 6 is still taking shape, it’s clear that establishing a standard is a crucial starting point. This isn’t about waiting for perfection but rather taking action now, learning by doing, and allowing the sector to grow as it develops 🌱 This year’s #COP29 has highlighted an unmistakable focus on credit markets, signaling that the industry is ready for implementation. As methodologies advance, one thing is clear: we must move forward, adapt, and refine along the way. Thank you to our speakers: Louise Matthias, Director Policy & Government Affairs, Climeworks Olafur Gudnason, Head of Policy, Carbfix Jon Christopher Knudsen, Chief Commercial Officer, SLB Capturi Nott Thorberg, Director of Green by Iceland Watch the session here: https://lnkd.in/ef22avmc Thank you to The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council for hosting us at their Nordic Pavilion 🤝

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) takes a leap forward in supporting aviation to reach #NetZero, leveraging permanent #CarbonRemoval (CDR) alongside deep emission reductions. ICAO has now approved standard bodies with permanent #CDR methodologies under its Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) framework for Phase 1 (2024-2026), paving the way for airlines to utilize permanent CDR credits for their CORSIA compliance. This development is critical for an industry where IATA, the international organization that represents and leads the airline industry, estimates up to 500Mt CO2[1] of CDR will be needed to reach #NetZero in 2050. As a founding partner to the CCS+ initiative developing methodologies towards Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), we are delighted to see the DAC+S methodology[2] gaining eligibility under CORSIA. At Climeworks we look forward to continuing our work with airlines to contribute to a critical part of their net-zero pathway. #ClimateAction #Innovation [1] https://lnkd.in/eDJ_3KTW [2] https://lnkd.in/en2E8iNU
